what to do with dried black beans?
Ended up with a big bag of these. Meant to request fermented black beans for Chinese black bean sauce, but hubby wasn't sure so he came home with a bag of dried black beans as well. What should i do with them?

I soaked them overnight, drained them, then fill the pot back up with water and added the beans back in with some onions and green pepper.
I was not prepared for the sheer quantity I'd have made... :blushing:
I divided it in half, froze half (and later pawned it off on a bean-loving friend), then steadily ate black beans in all kinds of things...there's a recipe I found for black bean brownies, but I never got around to trying it.0 -
Refried beans
Black bean burgers
Burritos
Enchiladas
Bean dip
Bean salad
In a stir fry
or just cook them and eat them as a side - they're delicious!0 -
YUMMY! I love black beans! Soak overnight as above poster said, then rinse the next morning and put in a crock pot full of water with onion, garlic, red and green peppers, salt and pepper. cook on low all day. You can freeze half or more. Here are some ideas:
Black beans and rice, I add salsa, or fresh tomatoes, onions, black olives and a little sirracha.
Quinoa and black beans with avocados, I also add tomatoes and onions and any sauce that I have in refrigerator.
Black bean, veggie and cheese quesadilla, grilled.
One of my very favorite is Cowboy caviar, which is a black bean, tomato, pepper salsa, you can find tons of recipes for this online.
I also blend my smooth and make tostados, bean dip and nachos.
Black beans are very yummy and healthy. Inbox me if you want my recipe for cowboy caviar.0 -
I live alone so I don't cook a lot at a time. But the idea for me is to cook up some once a week, then put in the fridge, and they're available as a quick add-in to healthy southwest-style eggs for breakfast, or any mexican-themed type dinner meals all week.0

Thanks guys. I didn't realize that the cooked beans freeze well. Soaking them now. Will try a dip and soup on the weekend and freeze the rest. Sounds like they would combine well with some Philly light cheese I've got lying around as well as some leftover homemade chimchurri.0

Oh, yum. Soak overnight. Boil and simmer until cooked the next day. Then stir fry in a large pan with a little olive oil, sliced tomato, sliced sweet onion, and McCormick'c Perfect Pinch Mexican spice. Serve with brown rice and a tossed salad with avocado.0 -
Black bean soup. Lots of recipes on the internet. Delicious with a little dollop of sour cream on top.0

Homemade bean burgers are great and premade patties freeze well for a quick meal later on. Here's a link to a recipe I posted earlier. I used canned beans because it's quicker but dry beans are actually better.
