Hello. 50 and fat

Hello, I'm50 , 5'2" and 187 lbs. I am the heaviest I have ever been and I can't seem to stop myself. I'm not sure what I am doing here, this is all new to me,(blogging) but I have got to have some help. How do I get started?

:flowerforyou: first of all you need friends that have been successful on here, so here I am! I am sending you a friend request so we can support & encourage each other! make sure you have an open diary so your friends can give the support you need! I have to say, this site does work but you need friends for this! hopefully, many will respond! once you accept my invitation, you can ask me anything you might have questions about!

first be honest with yourself log your food measure measure measure your food and know what is a real serving size vs what you are eating
cut the crap both with fooling yourself and the food you are eating we all know what is good for us and what is not treats are not for everyday consumption (for me that is a biggie) get rid of things like soda , sweets, seconds (servings)

then move more it does not have to be drastic at first it can be as simple as walking to the store just add more steps to your day

    drink water
watch your salt intake and be careful it hides in everything

find joy stress makes us fat and makes us more prone to disease

I wish you lots of luck

Click on "Food" in the tabs across the top. Enter what you eat for the day. Play around with the other tabs, you"l figure it out...just like everyone else. Find the "Goals" setting and set some realistic weight loss goals. Read, read, read. If you are serious you won't be fat and 50 for very long! I am also 50 and happily not so fat anymore! If I can do it so can you!! Welcome to Myfitnesspal aka my lifesaver! Enjoy the gift to yourself, it's the best.

Thank you so much. I'm just now learning my way around this program or site, so I am very slow. I joined in 2011, but didn't do anything with it. Thanks so much for teaching me. How do I communicate with you?

You have great advice already! I'm 48 and finally getting more consistent but still have some bad foods to get rid of for good (pop).

you can send people a friend request, click on their name and 'add friend' then they can be on your 'wall'... or you can send them a message.

I will send you a friend request. It will show on the top under a little person icon with a 1... click on that and say accept.

Welcome to the support side of MFP!

  • I've been saying the same thing, "This is the heaviest I've ever been," for the past year or so. Not sure what clicked, but I finally decided I needed to do something about it. I really like the discipline of logging what I eat every day....but I'm only two days in, so we'll see how I feel in a few weeks. At least it makes you stop just for a few seconds to think about it, and I think that helps at lot....being conscious of what you're actually putting in your mouth. Look for a friend request from me soon.
