Accountability Partner

Options
Hi everyone. I'm really in need of someone to bounce ideas back and forth with and to set goals with. It's been disappointing to start investing in workout/diet partners, only to have them bail out or slack off. I'm serious about losing approximately 40 pounds and would like to incorporate an Insanity workout plan along with some jogging and rowing. I don't really care how we get there, just want a reliable partner in crime to vent to and so we each have someone to kick in the *kitten*!! I realize there will be down times and slip ups and I would love to get with others that are good at telling it like it is while we pick each other up and cheer one another on. Let's make 2014 the year we got our sh** together!

Not to be a D!ck, but if you need someone to hold you accountable, you'll never succeed! I promise you though, if you hold yourself accountable you will succeed! If you really want it that is! Be accountable for yourself!

Ummmm, I kinda get the message you are sending, but it's hard to take someone seriously when they preface a post with "Not to be a D!ck". If you were able to be entirely successful with your fitness and diet goals with no input from others, you wouldn't be reading the communities section and commenting unless you have some sort of superiority complex. Some people just need a boost and are not ashamed to admit it.....I'm not a weak pansy who needs to whine and whimper at every turn, just looking for extra motivation and friendship from time to time. Thanks for the reply  PS Appropriate user name? LOL!

    :noway:

no surprise you can't find an accountability partner who sticks around with an attitude like that....

nothing wrong with the advice he gave you... and there's a big difference between holding yourself accountable to yourself and taking no input from others whatsoever. Anyway, you seem to be determined to succeed, I don't think you actually need an accountability partner at all, so invest all that energy and determination in yourself rather than in workout partners.

Hey Ya! Yep, I AM determined and completely open to input! Just trying to make the journey more fun by sharing it with others and connecting with people who may have similar interests. Instead of making assumptions about what I need and being judgmental, how about some friendliness? That's the primary reason for the initial post, a little camaraderie. That seems a bit hard to find.

the lack of friendliness is entirely in your own mind. There was nothing unfriendly about the first reply you got. He was just making a suggestion. Try reading the replies you get with a more friendly tone in your mind.

You seem really determined to succeed, but your past attempts you've been let down by others. So rather than looking for someone with the same level of commitment that you have to be an accountability partner, be your own accountability partner, and then just socialise and support people here at a less intense level than being accountability partners. You can still have camaraderie, but you're not reliant on the commitment of others to succeed.

    ^^Agreed!

OP I originally had a work out buddy, but they fell by the wayside (medical issues). At the end of the day yes it's great to have someone to spur each other on. However, nobody else can "do it for you". I'd vote you rely on yourself for inner commitment & as poster above stated. Use this site to develop a FL for support & mutual encouragement. I have a suspicion you're in the UK? (re: usage of "*kitten*"). Feel free to add me if you want.
