Hi, I started keto about 10 days ago and I need help figuring some stuff out. I am male, 18 years old, 216 pounds and need to lose about 35 more pounds . The things that's worrying me most is am I losing body fat or muscle mass. I've lost about 9 pounds so far and I am not sure if I'm doing this right. According to the keto calculator I shpuld be eating 1880 calories, but lately I've been eating 800-900 calories a day. I'm just not hungry and don't feel like eating that often (except late night where I sometimes eat a lot of food).)
1) Does the amount of calories I'm eating matter as long as I'm hitting the 65/30/5 ratio?
2)My second question is how do I make sure I'm not losing muscle mass instead of body fat?
3)Also, does it matter how many carbs i eat per hr ? I read somewhere that in order for me to not get kicked out of ketosis, i need to eat <9 grams of carbs an hr? No more than that?
This past week I'm not sure if I've mean eating enough fat but i started using the myfitnesspal app to track it. Thanks guys
(Also some extra info, I take ALA 300 mgs a day and multivitamins.)

Also, if a ketostix indicates that I am in ketosis, is it possible my body is still burning muscle instead of fat? And just a general keto question: Does the body burn the fat from the food we eat or does it burn our body fat? How does that work? Sorry dumb question I know0

Without addressing the other questions you asked, I'd like to advise you to rethink eating only 800-900 calories per day. It is far lower than what you should be eating as an 18 year old, 216lb male.0

Save muscle by eating atleast your lean body weight in protien 1g per lb0

Welcome, asn0211! MFP is a great way to keep track!
Eat the amount of calories that the keto calculator tells you. It is a pretty good calculator.
No matter what the ratio is, very low calories will cause loss of muscle. The calculator also helps you determine how many grams of protein, fat, and carbs you should eat. Follow that advise, too.
Spread your carbs out over the day. No more than 10-12 per meal is best.
Our bodies burn fat from food AND fat from our bodies.
Good luck!0 -
@willdob3 so when does it burn our dietary fat and when does it choose to burn our body fat? & so there is no specific amount of carbs that will get you out of keto? Sorry for asking again but I see a lot of people doing keto eating almost 15-20 carbs in one meal. Thanks for the response!0

1) Yes, the amount of calories you eat matters.
2) You will be losing muscle mass if you are only consuming 800-900 calories per day.
3) I don't know how many carbs per hour you should eat to stay in ketosis as the whole thing seems like silly nonsense to me, let alone individual statements.0
