Hello, all. I'm new to this forum. A week ago I was diagnosed as insulin resistant. I'm a 58-yr old woman, post menopausal, weigh 153 lbs, am 5'6.5"" (used to be 5'7"). I'm not surprised due to my lifestyle the last four years (extremely high stress, little exercise, and very poor eating habits). Have been doing lots of research and am interested in a low carb and/or paleo diet. My goals are to reverse the insulin resistance, lose fat, build muscle, heal from the IBS, inflammation, and autoimmune responses in my body.
If anyone can make suggestions about particular diets or direct me to a particular group or thread, I would very much appreciate it. I have severe degeneration in one hip and am currently healing from cataract surgery so I will have to begin exercising gradually. Am starting by taking two or three short walks a day and when eye is healed enough will start back on Pilates (started that just before eye surgery). I also have 5 and 10 lb weights so will begin those after eye healing too.
Thank you for any advice or direction!

Hi and welcome to mfp. My husband is 59 and has IBS. With me being the chef I've had to change my way of cooking to suit his condition and both our weight loss etc. We had to do a trial and error of finding his IBS triggers which for him is certain sausages, bread and cake (gluten problem). I'd recommend investing in a bread maker if you eat a lot of bread as it will be cheaper long term than buying gluten free bread (if that's your trigger). Keep gluten free flour to hand for cottage pies and thickening sauces etc. His stomach swells to twice its size in a flare up and is painful for him but since we've avoided these glutens he is so much better and he's losing weight consistently.
Please feel free to add me. I'm on here daily and I eat the same as my hubby including gluten free and even i feel loads better. I hope your recovery is swift and you reach your goals.:flowerforyou:0 -

Thank you! I don't know how to add someone. Plus, for some reason, my page is in French. At least the posts are in English. As far as the bread, I have cut it out completely and I'm not experiencing the IBS symptoms. I don't know if it gluten or just grains in general. I've read about people making bread out of almond flour. Your suggestion to get a bread machine would definitely save me money. Thanks for responding! If you can tell me how to add you, I will.0

Thank you. I would love to share meal ideas too. I'm doing this posting on my phone and for some reason, the screen was in French but now it's in Spanish. If I can figure out how to add someone, I will add you.0
