There is a group here called VSGers. There are many successful sleevers who use MFP both pre- and post-op.0

I had VSG on 7/9/13 and I am very happy with my decision. I've lost 62 pounds so far. About 20 to go. Let me know if you have specific questions. I'll be happy to try to help. :-)0

My friend had this done last year and he's seen really good progress.
I personally don't advocate surgery unless you:
* are extremely obese,
* are suffering life threatening issues
* are unlikely to turn your habits around before those health issues kill you
With the sleeve I think the lap band is a better option only because it's somewhat reversible. The sleeve is there for life and you'll never be able to go back to having a normal stomach.
I'm sure there are things about the sleeve that are better than the lap band, though.0 -
Eric - it's worth mentioning that there are a significant number of people getting revised from band to sleeve nowadays. I have a co-worker who's had great success with the lap band procedure (she lost 162 pounds and has kept it off); however, some people have complications with having a foreign object i(the band) in their body and the band requires a lot more maintenance. (Actually, the sleeve requires none.). I used the same surgeon as my co-worker and while he very objective about the pros and cons of all the different options and would have performed any of them, I felt like the sleeve was a better option for me. Bariatric pal.com is a great resource for people interested in learning more about bariatric surgery and the experiences of others in particular.
Although I had 82 pounds to lose, I don't think most people would have considered me to be "extremely obese", but my husband said that my chart on the day of surgery said "morbidly obese". I had two "co-morbidities" - hypertension and sleep apnea. My BMI was between 35 and 40 pre surgery and insurance covered the surgery. I'm not sure if/when my health issues would have killed me, but I had tried unsuccessfully for over 15 years to lose the weight and keep it off. Surgery certainly poses risks; however, it has made a huge difference for me. :-)0
