There was a whole "what do you put on your oatmeal" thread going round today...
I'm no help sorry, I don't eat it!0 -
I put frozen berries in mine stir then in so they then stay semi hard0

I'm on a steel cut oatmeal kick. It takes 30 min to make, so I make four servings at a time. I bring it to work with me and then microwave it (note: it "sets" once it cools, so it's kind of like cutting off a slice, but it loosens back up when it's reheated). I often add a splash of maple syrup and about 2 tsp of preserves. Or, sometimes brown sugar. Depends on my mood.0

I cut up fresh apples and add them to oatmeal with cinnamon! Mmmm! So yummy!0

I make mine with bananas. 7/8 tbsp of oat meal and one mashed banana. Leave that for a few minutes and ta-daa! They're so yummy and it's really fast. But that's only for people who like uncooked oat meal.0

Strawberries. Apples. Bananas. Blueberries. Raspberries.
Pretty much anything goes good in Oatmeal. Last week I made Oatmeal with Egg Nog (instead of milk) and added in sliced banana. It was so good.
I'll never go back to instant oatmeal again though. So many yummy fruits to add to it.0 -
I am also on Steel Cut oats kick. I started making them in my crockpot. So easy. I have a 2 quart one that I picked up for less than 10 bucks. I spray the inside with non-stick spray. Then 1 cup of regular steel cut oats and 4 cups of liquid. It makes 4 servings. I put some almond milk in as liquid and a few packets of splenda. You can use all water, all milk or a mixture as well as any kind of sweenter. (brown sugar, regular or honey too) I start it on high for about 2 hours. once its hot then i put it on warm for the night. In the morning I have a great base to add whatever else I want in it. You can also add some unsweetened cocoa powder or diced apple the night before. the possibilities are endless..lol. a web search for crockpot oatmeal will give you lots of ideas too0

I saw a pin on pinterest a long time ago (don't use my pinterest anymore, too busy at the gym or on MFP hehe) for overnight oats, which you might be interested in if you like whole, harder fruit
Measure out your oatmeal, then add in milk and/or yogurt, fruits, sugar, etc. and mix thoroughly. The point is to make it in advance then let the flavors sit together in your fridge overnight and you eat it cold, especially if you're on the go, in the morning You can make enough for a week and split it into containers, too. Had a test run and it was good, but now I work in food service and don't make my own breakfast or lunch anymore xP0 -
It is nice with a little pinch of salt, but I am hard core like that0

I love oats too!
I put 1/2 cup oats in a container, then a tsp sunflower seeds, tsp pepitas, pour boiling water from the kettle to cover, then leave in the fridge overnight - I used to put dried fruit in it too, but don't do that now.
By the morning its 'cooked' I pour on a bit of coconut cream and honey and take it to work.
Some people eat it cold, I like to heat it up for a little bit in the microwave.
Very yummy!!!
You can add frozen berries the night before too.0 -
I just use a tsp of brown sugar and I'm good to go. Also flavored coffee creamer in it is good too.0
-
put two table spoons of peanut butter in with the water and the oats.0

I just cook my oats and throw in some apple or whatever while it's still really hot...the fruit cooks slightly but keeps its firmness.0
-
I like to add a scoop of protein powder to mine...yum!0
-
I use old-fashioned rolled oats with water but I'll add some sliced almonds and blueberries with a scoop of vanilla protein powder. Or I'll add some ground flaxseed, some mashed banana and a scoop of peanut butter cookie dough protein powder. OMG - to die for! I used to love the McDonalds oatmeal too but it's full of sugar so I've improvised to make my own. I also want to try it with chopped up apples, cinammon, and and walnuts.0

I make 1/2 cup old fashioned rolled oats with 1 cup unsweetened almond milk. Sometimes I'll sprinkle some cinnamon on it. Then I'll put it in the microwave on 70% power for 5 minutes. When it's done, I add 2 teaspoons of peanut or almond butter while it's still hot. Then I add some cut-up bananas, apples, strawberries, blueberries. Dried fruit, dark chocolate chips, and nuts all make great toppings - but only use 2 tablespoons of any of those since they're high-calorie!0

STEEL CUT OATS ARE THE BEST!
I make a big batch and have some for breakfast every week. I cook them in water (1c oats to 4 c water) and then I plop some of the hot, cooked oats in a bowl with soy milk (or raw milk if i can get it, but i usually cant). I prefer my oats a little runny, and adding milk to the pre-cooked oats is a great way to reheat them.
I usually load them up with spices (ginger, cinnamon, clove, allspice, cardamom) and add just a touch of salt and a touch of honey.
ALSO, if you've never tried putting some pumpkin puree in your oats, you really ought to!!! It makes them so creamy! With the spices it really makes the oats taste like pumpkin pie. So decadent!
ALSO ALSO
you can make them in the slow cooker! overnight!!! wake up to warm creamy steel cut oats!0 -
My absolute favourite oatmeal is Banana-oatmeal!
40 grams of oats
2 egg whites
1 ripe banana (if you don't have a ripe banana, microwave it for a couple of minutes.)
Water
Mash the banana and mix it with egg whites and oats. Add water till it's got the consistency you like. Put in in a pot on your stove top and bring it to the point where it's bubbly and boiling, stir consistently! Then turn to low-medium heat and stir for a couple of minutes.
The oatmeal gets extremely creamy and sweet, ah, it's the best thing ever! It's awesome topped with peanutbutter and fruits or nuts.0
