Anyone else have a .5 lb a week weight loss goal?

I just joined and set my weight loss goal at just .5 lbs. a week. I was worried that if I tried for more, I might get discouraged by the calorie limit and either give up or constantly go over the limit and accomplish nothing. Just wondering who else might be starting small. Also, would love to hear what little changes anyone might be making that aren't too painful and easy to stick to. Hope you'll share here or friend me so we can exchange ideas.

I do. I'm 5'0" with about 25 pounds to lose. I tried setting it for more, I only get 1200. And I tried that.. It didn't work. I was HANGRY! Feel free to add me if you like Good luck on your journey in this coming year.0

Mine is .6lb/wk... I guess we shouldn't mind taking small steps as long as we don't go backwards0

That's my goal. I'm in what I consider the last push to get down to a goal weight and maintain it, and not in any particular hurry to do so. Also, I found that 1,200 were just too few calories for me.0

It took me a year, but I've lost more than 20 lbs. w/ a .5/wk. goal.0

My goal is also 0.5lbs per week! I just can't manage 1200 cals/day. Its SLOOOW going, and can be frustrating to see it bounce up and down just a few ounces week over week, but we'll get there!0

That's what I'm set up on mfp to lose. I've already lost 8 lbs so far. I only have about 15 more lbs to lose. I like to eat to much to try to lower my daily calories. I have no intention of giving up on eating ice cream, pop tarts, mashed potatoes, chicken parm, etc etc. Feel free to add me if you want a like minded friend.0

Just came in to say :drinker: to a reasonable goal.
I was set to 1 lb a week until I got closer to goal, then I switched to .5 lb per week. It took me a little over a year to lose 50 lbs. That might seem like a long time, but really it's a drop in the bucket. It gave me the time to really learn new habits.0 -
I know what you mean. I saw that 1200 calorie recommendation when I set it for 1 lb. a week, and I immediately felt deprived!0

So good to know 'cause 20 lbs. is my goal, too. I figured it came on really slowly over the course of a few years, I shouldn't necessarily expect it to come off all that fast. Thanks for the reality check.0

YMMV. I'm super short, have a thyroid disease, and don't exercise nearly enough. (I plan to work on the one within my control in 2014.) Everybody's different, and weight loss takes lots of trial & error to find what works for you.0

I do. I'm 5'1" and presently at 117 lbs; I'd like to be 7 lbs lighter but I don't necessarily care about weight as much as my shape and measurements. I know that at my size, trying to lose more would probably be impossible. Plus I can't deal with eating 1200 calories a day, even when eating back exercise calories-- it just sucks!! So I chose to eat a little more and not lose weight as quickly.0

I'm doing that right now fell free to add me:flowerforyou:0

When I first came to MFP I set my goal to lose 1/2 a pound a week. I ended up losing more quickly because, like everyone else who comes here, I put "sedentary" on my profile. I lost over 30 lbs in about 8 months and never felt like I was dieting, really.0

My goal is currently .5lbs a week as well. my goal weight is 130-135lbs. What is more important to me though is changing my diet so it is more consistent and healthy. I'm a self confessed binge eater. I'll eat constantly one day then not eat at all for the next two.0

I lost at about .5 a week. with a few exceptions of course, but in general it was a slow loss which is fine by me.0
