Fitbit zip, holidays and maintenance weight

Ugh, every year the holidays packs 10-15 lbs on me and takes up to 3 months to get it off. I usually maintain my weight over half of the year, but come holidays, I lose it and get an I don't care attitude. I always say every year...I won't do that again and I'm back where I was and even a little on the worse side this year.
I follow the Paleo lifestyle for the most part, but started drinking some holiday spirits and it just totally wrecked my lifestyle. Now that I have my fitbit zip I am ready to get back on the bandwagon and kill it this year and stay connected to my MFP friends and take the time to log my food as it started going down hill as well when I quit logging food. I'm glad to have MfP and pals to help along the way. I'm not dragging this out any longer.
I'm good about exercise which includes cardio and heavy lifting, but struggle with keeping my calories where they need to be. Looking forward to a new beginning and new year. Happy New Year everyone.

Happy New Year!
I too have put on weight ... about 10 pounds! not too bad in the scheme of things really, but more that
I would like. I don't have a problem with exercising, but it is the calories. It is so easy for them to creep up if you are not logging everything. You get to a point where you think I got this, I know how much to eat, I don't need to log .... but you simply cannot estimate with accuracy (if that makes sense!), unless you eat exactly the same things everyday then you need to log. Looks like I will be back to logging with an open food diary for accountability.
We can do this in 2014!!!

I love my zip!
I put on 3 pounds just before Christmas but it was all water and is gone - thank God! It's salt that kills me more than anything when I eat things I normally don't.
Looking forward to the New Year! And on January 9th I can join the National Weight Loss Study because I'll have lost more than 30 pounds and have kept it off more than a year! Not only do I think it's a great cause, but I think it will be motivating to help me keep it off.1 -
I didn't really put on anything over Xmas, and was only logging sporadically. I understand that many people find the Paleo diet good, but it sounds to me like you have a bit of a binge/crash dieting approach which isn't working for you. How about trying to build in some "discretionary" calories into your regular routine, e.g. alcohol, chocolate etc. This way, you won't feel like you're falling "off the wagon" if you have an extra mince pie or two over Xmas so you won't go all-out on the binging.
It's actually not unhealthy to do it this way. It *is* against what I understand to be the Paleo ethos, but Paleo and Clean Eating have limited scientific evidence backing them as a healthier lifestyle choice than eating an otherwise balanced diet with some chocolate, providing you get enough of your macronutrients and micronutrients.
These links are quite interesting (though proponents of Paleo and Clean Eating may find them confrontational) http://www.wannabebig.com/diet-and-nutrition/the-dirt-on-clean-eating/

P.S. jealous of those of you with fitbits! I really want one but can't afford it at the moment!0
