deadlifts for a bigger *kitten* cause other place to become big?

I want to try deadlifts to make my *kitten* big but I'm scared of making my thighs bigger or making my back muscular. If it causes other places to be muscular or bigger is there a certain safe weight?

You don't do deadlifts for bigger glutes. You do deadlifts for bigger hamstrings and back mostly. Squat for a more defined butt. If you don't want anything else to grow, do the glute isolation exercises, but I'd think you'd want to be proportionate. Your body is going to grow the way it wants to regardless. Just hit it correctly with intensity and it will grow.
  • Some of it is genetics, but deads will hit everything in the posterior chain. There's no safe weight - either the weight is heavy enough that you grow, or light enough that you won't. You may just have to play around with other exercises to see if there's something that gets your glutes burning more than everything else - barbell hip thrusters or kettlebell swings, maybe. Bret Contreras' website may help since he has some serious fixation on glutes.

e: oh hey here Contreras talks about activation rates of various glute exercises. Man, he loves glutes.

Also: Deadlifts aren't going to suddenly make your muscles asplode.

The safest weight with a deadlift is any weight that doesn't make you say, "banana."

Why banana? It's your safe word, I just made it for you.

    Banana.
