Here we go again :-)

Here I go again trying to lose the weight. It's been a constant battle my entire life and I've tried all sorts of programs with success for a little bit that gets me to 199 but something happens and I go right back up. I recently went to a Medical Weight Loss doctor for help and she prescribed Belviq to me and I had horrible reactions to it. A headache like I've never experienced and such dizziness, lost balance and couldn't remember jack squat and I was only on it for a few days when I took myself off it. I called the dr to say what I was experiencing and she said to stick with it for a week and everything should be okay, but I couldn't function at work or in my daily life. Forget about exercising. I couldn't keep my balance enough. I was so depressed too.
The food I had to buy were protein shakes and I the cost would have been 146.00 every two weeks. Drink 3 a day with a 550 calorie dinner. Well, I can't afford that. So I will get my own protein powder and eat sensibly at night. So I did that for about 5 days until I decided to go off the meds and return to normal. Plus decided to NOT do the program and spend that kind of money.
Then I searched for diet books and found the Alternate Day diet where on Fast days you eat 500 calories. Yesterday was my first day and it wasn't so bad. I had lots of energy. Today I can eat ANYTHING I want. But even though I have the freedom to eat anything, my desire to do it isn't there. I might treat myself to a dessert, I won't go bonkers.
Since I started the two, I've lost 7 pounds. Granted it was probably water weight, it's still a loss. Once I pick up exercising next week again, I know the weight loss will increase. Right now I am so busy getting my mom moved into a senior apaartment, I don't have time for anything else. But I am getting a workout moving her stuff. :-)
So I am glad to be part of this great community and making friends and getting tips and encouragement.
Oh, Happy New Year and let's make 2014 the year we all make our goals!

Well congrats on the new start. Stay away from those pills... you know your body better than the doctor does that's for sure. I recently did the IF diet with my wife. I was in a supportive role as I really don't need to lose weight... But she does so I do whatever I can to help her along the way. I really liked the IF... We did the 5:2 IF... 5 days of regular eating, 2 days of fasting(500 cals). I found that the fasting days taught us how much we eat out of routine... Eventually I started calling it Intermittent Feasting because I felt compelled to feast the days after I fasted... So I am back to a regular semi-clean diet counting calories.
You seem motivated so that's good. If I were you I would stick with the fasting and make sure you on the regular days you still have a deficit but only slightly. Do that for 6 months combined with some exercise and I think you will be hitting some of your goals.
Good Luck!
