Mid-day alcohol recovery?

Hey everybody! I have a question about general midday alcohol recovery. I'm a recent grad, and I think most of my alcohol use for life is over. However, I'm used to only drinking at night. I just started my first full time job, and a lot of my coworkers drink midday on Friday (or today, which is New Year's Eve and we have tomorrow off). A guy bought me a couple of drinks and I drank them out of politeness, but then were really strong and I got very tipsy. This obviously hindered my work performance and was a lot of unnecessary calories, but my biggest question is:

I kind of feel horrible now, and I wanted to go for a run later. What can I do to make myself feel up to running? I drank a cup of coffee and that helped some.

Thanks!!

I would suggest drinking lots of water. Whenever I used to drink, drinking some full glasses of water made the tipsy go away.

I have a friend who is encouraged to drink at the work place.. I am not a fan myself.

Drink lots of water and eat a lot of oatmeal (if you can). Good luck!

metabolize the alcohol before you do any exercise. Exercising with alcohol in your system is not good. Personally I'd just enjoy New Years Eve and go for my run tomorrow.

Now...off to poor my old fashioned.

cwolfman, do you know why specifically it's bad to work out with alcohol in your system, besides risk of dehydration? purely out of curiosity - it did seem like kind of a bad idea to me but I have no idea why.

    Thanks! :)

Coffee will just dehydrate you more like the alcohol.
I would suck back the water!!!

I've never heard of people drinking in the workplace! Maybe cause I am a nurse lol, but if you don't want to drink politely decline. That's your right :)

I don't know. I always feel completely worn out if I have a drink or two during day time or too late. Evening time is best for me.

Drinking alcohol reduces you blood sugar...exercising reduces it even more and it can get dangerously low. That said, back in the day I used to throw them back and dance the night away...

Also, oatmeal, etc isn't really going to do anything. Your body simply requires time to metabolize alcohol...time is the only thing that sobers you and removes the alcohol from your system. If it was only a couple of drinks, it should only take a couple of hours. General rule is about one hour per standard drink (10oz beer, 5 oz wine, 1.5 oz booze).
