Yesterday's paper was sitting on my desk when I got to work this morning, and one of the articles is talking about something that just makes me go  :noway:

"Teens who text 120 times a day or more... are more likely to have had sex or used alcohol and drugs than kids who don't send as many messages."

REALLY!?!? Who the heck researched this?!?! I want to know how to get paid to do research on something as trivial as this.

Oh, wait... it says later in the article that this study was done in Cleveland. From what I've heard, there isn't much to do there and maybe that's what kids need to do to keep from being bored to death!

  • Hmm, I can easily send that many in a few hours. It's a good thing I am not a teen, but a responsible adult.

 That is the strangest correlation I've heard. Maybe it has to do with more texting = more friends = more peer pressure = more chances of doing those things. *shrug* So the moral of the story is to be a social outcast. yesssmileyf.gif

I'm just looking at it from the perspective that I was kinda in to all of those as a teen, and I doubt I would have sent that many text messages a day at that age... you know, if I grew up in a time where that was an option!
Yeahhhhh. I had a pager in college.....Not quite the same. *giggle* But it was fun sending "07734" and such to each other. Plus I was a social outcast. So I was a good girl until college corrupted me.... smiley-angelic002.gif

I believe that when it comes to cell phones, some parents lack proper supervision/ guidance with their children's usage. My daughter is only 12 and they had an assembly at her school about sexting and I live in a small PA town... I think it's more of a problem in some areas than people would like to admit. My daughter does not have a cell phone but begs me for one every few months b/c her friends have them... she is very social w/o a cell phone and I dont see the reason why a 12 yo must have one. I agree with JennaMarie222, what happened to writing notes??? ...lol :)))

The only phone we had growing up was on a "party line" (and no I don't mean rockin good time party - I mean you and your closest 5 neighbors all shared the same phone line, at any given time you could pick up your phone and hear your neighbor talking to their sister or whatever... you then had to keep checking until the phone was free to use it.... i.e. not a lot of teenage phone time).

No comment on the rest   :smokin:
