Terrible GAS while bulking

Embarassing

So I started my bulk August 1 and let me tell you the gas has been absolutely terrible. I mean its so bad it smells like something literally crawled in me and died. My bulk ends next month but for future reference I'm looking for any possible solutions to this problem. I don't suffer from any food allergies and am not lactose intolerant. I'm looking for advice from people who have faced similar issues.

Feel free to glance at my diary if it helps. I have bulked on a high protein diet (240-250g per day) and from what I read it MAY be the culprit, however I would be very reluctant to change this as I have had tremendous gains in lean mass and strength in the last 6 months and have fine tuned my macros to my own personal needs.

Thanks in advance

Whey protein. Did you just add it, increase it, or maybe switch brands? No lactose intolerance in my household, but any time we add a lot of dairy around here, it's like WHOA don't light a match or we're all gonna die.

I agree with the whey protein. When you consume a lot of identical nutrients (which is what happens when you consume large amounts of the same brand whey protein), your body starts to build an intolerance. So change your whey protein brand. Or try an egg based or casein protein powder instead.

Also give probiotic yogurt and pineapple a try. It'll help with the gas.

Malitol or sucrolose are huge culprits. Check to see what your protein powder is sweetened with (if it is sweetened). Even stevia can cause me trouble if I get too much of it.

Could it just be the increase in food consumption? Your digestive system will be working harder? Perhaps probiotics, as well as digestive enzymes and/or HCL would help?

I used to have the same problem. It was the brand of protein I was using. I did more research and switched to "ON" Whey Protein. From the first day of my switch I didn't have anymore problems.

I would say it's the oatmeal, 2 cups of oatmeal has a lot of fiber, specially soluble fiber than can cause gas. I have the same problem when I eat a lot of oatmeal. I would replace some of the carbs from oatmeal for your post workout meal with fruit like a banana or two. A good combination of simple and complex carbs works best post workout.

Thank you all for your great advice. After speaking to a good friend and trainer of mine I've been advised that it's nothing to worry about. He pretty much confirmed by suspicion of the gas being related to a high protein intake. For the posts suggesting to switch whey supplements, I've used the same brand of Muscletech for this entire year and the gas hadn't started until I started bulking.

    Thanks again everyone
