17-day diet, anyone have experience with it?

I've been researching diet plans to get things jump started. I've heard good things about this plan. Anyone have any advice or experience with it?
Tips or help would be appreciated! Happy new year! ;)

what's the 17 day diet? I lost approx. 4 pounds on my first 17 days of being on MFP, calorie counting really works and it was all on the jump start I needed.

Here's an outline of what it is.

    http://www.webmd.com/diet/17-day-diet

It looks...well I donno, that's a general outline and I'm not an expert, but it doesn't really set off my quack alarms so sure why not, give it a shot.

It's not a 17 day crash or anything like that, it's a calorie cycling plan with 17 day long phases. In my heart I suspect such things are overcomplicated, but probably harmless.

Why don't you just start? Just do today, what you want to do for the rest of your life.

Eat at a caloric deficit that is appropriate to maintain health while losing fat.
Find something you enjoy doing then go out and do it everyday.
Weigh/measure and log all your food - every bite.
Have a ton of patience and DON'T QUIT

I tried all the popular diets for years. I have jumpstarted my diet more times than a dead battery. These things are temporary. Until you are ready to do the hard work - you will be destined to keep starting over.

Just start. Do it today. And then keep doing it. Best of luck.

I did the 17 day diet last year. It helped start off a diet, I ended up losing 10 pounds. However the first 17 days were really tough. I was always hungry. A big part of the first 17 days is chicken and fish and I HATE fish.

Basically eating what they tell you to eat can be hard if you are picky, like me. But some of it can be good. There are many websites with tons of things to do with plain greek yogurt (my favorite was turning it into chocolate pudding with cocoa and stevia).

Try to find the book at the library or super cheap on Amazon. Some of it is good and can help with any diet, but it's not worth the regular price. Good luck!

Why not try to the do-it-for-life diet instead? More sustainable and less misery for sure.

Enter your info and goals accurately and realistically here at MFP. Eat healthy foods, hitting your calorie and macro goals. Exercise. Drink water. Take rest days. Get good sleep.

Temporary diets will give you temporary results.

I did the 17 day diet over the summer and lost over 17 pounds just on 17 DD cycles. It is not a sustainable diet for life you will get bored. However it's a great way to get you a jump start and. cleanse out the crap you've been eating. I did 2 cycles of the first 3 cycles and it really did help me get on track with eating leaner and drinking more water and green tea. Some people need to follow a plan and I'm one of those people. I am still continuing to use many principles of the 17 DD today. Good luck!

Exactly what you said. I just want something to follow to get going. Not looking for a "quick fix" to or drop a quick 10 pounds. I know what I need to do in my life to keep myself healthy. I wanted a plan to get going and I will modify as I need it.

I know most of these "fad" diets are a gimmick or a joke, this one seemed the most logical one for me personally that didn't sound too crazy.

Appreciate all the advice on here. Thanks.

If you log your food faithfully, exercise, etc., you should lose. You don't have to do this 17 day diet, unless you really want to.

TXCollin, What did you decide to do?
I've been off WW for about 6 months and don't seem to be interested in tracking food like I should. I've done so many low-carb diets in the past and love the way I feel once I get past the first 5 days, but truly have not had much long-term success with any diet. I love the way your cravings fade away after 3 days of no sugar/flour!!!
However, looking at this diet, and recipes, it looks like work compared to a WW diet. I think I'm going to go for it. Let me know if you started too?
    Anyone else interested?
