New Weighing Scales! Help

Hello,
i have got some new scales and I was wondering that if I got a piece of flat tiling and placed it on top of the carpet, would i be able to use my scales on the tile to give an accurate reading?
I've been told an accurate reading will only come on a flat hard surface but we only have wood/tiling in the living room and kitchen so i dont want to weigh myself in there in front of everyone.
Any help?
Thanks

I wouldn't think it would work. Even though you're putting it on top of a hard surface, that hard surface is on top of a squishy (unstable) surface.
What about putting it in the bathroom? I doubt the bathroom is carpeted... lol
To be honest, I have my scale in the kitchen. It serves me as a good reminder whenever I go in there to not snack on unnecessary stuff.0 -
The bathroom has like a vinyl floor thats kinda bouncy so that doesnt give an actual accurate reading.0

Of the 3 options (out in the kitchen, on carpet on a tile, or on vinyl which is most likely covering plywood or if it is like our house, it's over a cement slab) I would think that the vinyl-floored bathroom is your best bet. Perhaps not as deadly accurate as if you put the scale on a truly flat, hard surface such as in your kitchen area, but definitely way more accurate than the tile-on-carpeting route. Plus you have to realize that if you purchased a digital scale there is a margin of error anyway that you're not going to get away from no matter what surface you put it on. Getting a dead-accurate number is not as important as putting the scale in one spot and always weighing there, same time of day, same food/fluid level on board, same clothes. Seeing a downward trend is what you want to be looking for.0 -
For years I used a board on top of carpet and it gave me a consistent if not accurate reading. I just pulled up the carpet so now the same scale is on hard wood and I seem to be a pound heavier. But the thing is that it was consistent so it worked.0
