Is tuition punishment for wanting a better future?

Growing up in a family who lived paycheck to paycheck, just barely getting by inspired me of having the dream of getting a college degree. I have never had any support from my family members because they don't understand what a college degree means or how difference of a life it can give a person. I am currently on my fourth year of college. I have two years to go and will be graduating with a degree in Dietetics and Nutrition. Nutrition and helping others is my passions. However, besides a couple scholarships here and there I am already in $45,000 worth of debt. I don't get any funds from the state through Pell grants because my step dad makes just enough. All of my families money goes to bills, debt and my other siblings who still live at home. They would love to help me but are unable to. It's such a scary feeling borrowing all of this money. I want this degree so bad and am working over 40hours a week while going to school full time to obtain it. I will do anything. I am now at the point where I cannot get enough loans and am at a deficiency of $4000 for this semester. I feel like I am being punished for wanting a better future for myself and one that will be useful to others.

Some advice would be real helpful right now. I appreciate any advice or comments.

Thank You,
Andrea

I applaud your efforts and don't stop now, I work in financial aid. Have you tried a scholarship search? Fast web.com should have one. Be very through. Apply for aid early.

You are right that you are coming up on the federal loan limits for undergrads, you will definitely want to choose income contingent repayment. When will you turn 24 you will be independent then. Although if you are working 40 hours a week, you may make too much as a single.person.

Let me know if I can answer any other questions, good luck.

I also don't get any pell money because my parents income. They don't help me with school and I don't really expect them to either. Talk to your finically aid office at your college. I'm sure s/he has ran into similar situations before and can offer help. Best of luck to you.
