i dont "get" all the adopt a noob posts...
..........aaaaaaaaaaaaaaand UNadopt!
no seriously. are they people who consider themself so great that they are offering 2 lucky people the "opportunity" to be their friend? is that what all those posts are about?
No. Had you read any of them you'd know that's not the intent.
I have read almost all of them, and I gotta tell you, it isn't as clear as you think. I think it is a great idea. But it also seems like we are the butt of some joke.
yes, i see where your coming from, thats kinda why i was wondering if it was real or just people trolling. if they are being serious, then thats great!0 -
The lack of time to correspond with an infinite number of strangers is not indicative of self-image grandiosity.

Some of them are that great.
Just so we're all clear, I'm that great...
...I'm just not willing to share that greatness formally at this time.
I would never question your greatness.0 -
I'm completely serious. I don't "troll."
As for the "limit" it was tongue-in-cheek, but I probably wouldn't take on a bunch just because I already have a biggish friend list.0 -

yeah, i dont like a big friendslist because its hard to keep up with everyone. thats why i go through and delete people who dont sign in on a regular basis, because, i prefer a smaller friendslist.0 -
The limit was partially tongue in cheek. Though I really don't want to have 30 new people that I'm trying to help out all at once and having my available time with each of them being watered down as a result. Plus I've already accepted 3 of the 4 that messaged me about it, and only declined the 4th because he didn't want any help, but was looking for an accountability buddy.
Perhaps it may be a bit arrogant for us to offer our services to newer people, but it is a damn sight better than looking down our noses at them and complaining that they will be flooding the message boards with Cleanse topics and hogging the gym.0 -
And yes, I am that great.0

I will *not* be adopting any noobs at this time.
That is all.

Should I look down my nose at you then?

no, i dont think the posts are arrogant, i just didnt know if they were real posts, as in serious, or if they were jokes, like just kinda having fun with all the resolutioners... if people want to helpn other people, great, i just didnt know if they were serious posts or not, the 2 limit kinda made it seem like it was posted to be silly, thats all.0 -

I adopted you last week!0 -
I have read almost all of them, and I gotta tell you, it isn't as clear as you think. I think it is a great idea. But it also seems like we are the butt of some joke.
Which one makes you think that? Most (if not all) are actually really helpful, nice people.
There isn't one in particular. I think it may just be the number of threads that have sprouted, and the joking going on in between them. Not that there is anything wrong with it, but it made me pause. In all honesty, many of the names that have popped up are members I have truly learned from. But I still couldn't be sure.
I am not looking to be adopted. I look like a newbie, but I am not. Things have been going rough, and in a demoralized, and slightly drunk, state, I deactivated my account of over one year. I truly regret it, but have decided I need to start over anyway. I learned from "in place of a roadmap" group, so I know what to do. I just have to do it.
This really is a great idea. I hope it goes well. Thanks for clarifying.0 -

Some were people just having fun and saying they were not adopting people, but the ones who offered to adopt people did so with good intentions. I believe.0 -

no, your right, it does take time, which is why i prefer to have less friends. they keep building up, and it makes it harder to answer questions and give advise and what not. i dont participate in this adoption thing, but just in regards to regular everyday friend requests, i would prefer to have a button that shuts off friend requests. im not a good friend. im actually a really bad friend. people message me and i dont respond for 7-10 days sometimes. i go through and delete about twice a week, just to trim it down a bit... i agree that in order to help others, its easier with a small friendslist... you are 100% right!0 -
Although I am not willing, the following list of really awesome people may be:

MFP is sitting on a really great opportunity, with this adopt-a-noob thing. If they'd actually build something into the software to match up newbies with people who want to adopt/help/counsel (vs those who just want an accountabilibuddy) there would be a higher success rate, people sticking around longer, more traffic, and more word-of-mouth promotion.
Given past updates, I cringe to think how it would *actually* be implemented, but the idea in itself is a good one, IMO.0 -
Actually i think the two limit should be considered.
If someone has a lot of questions and needs a lot of help it takes time.
This is true. I'm her friend and I take a lot of time. Questions and stuff.
Many of the people offering up help are on my list o' friends and the others are people I've admired from afar. They are truly a wonderful, real world resource for what works and what is derp. The new people who have taken a chance and reached out to these people are much more likely to be successful (by listening to these folks) than those who do not. And for those not willing to reach out to these experts, just keep tracking their posts in the forums and you'll learn stuff anyway.0
