Tired of being overweight

Just thought I would introduce myself, I am 26, 5'7 and 210 lbs. I came into the military at 140 and after 8 years am up to 210 and a 38 inch waist. I am at the point where I just want to lose fat, have more energy and be healthy.

I am overseas for a year and have nothing to do but hit the gym and work. My goal is to go down 4 sizes in jeans and wear 34's again. I would say I would like to be fitting in 29's again but I don't see that anytime soon and want to start with a more achievable goal.

I have started by changing soda and juice for just water, no more chocolate and junk. I try to stick with chicken, tuna, and salads with tons of veggies. I have replaced tons of ranch for JUST hot sauce on my salads. As far as working out I am going to hit the gym up 5 days a week and have felt more energetic by actually going now. Today I went to the gym for a couple of hours and did free weights, 2 mile run, and sauna for 30 mins. Wore a hooded sweatshirt while working out to sweat, lost 5 lbs in water weight, which I know will come right back. Just a good feeling knowing I was sweating it up.

Any advice would be appreciated.

    MFP is a great tool for loosing fat! I'm down 53lbs over the last two years, I'm down from a 38(nearly40) waist, to an ez 34(sometimes a 32). I've logged in 735 days in a row. It's taken some discipline, it's tough, but It's something you can do! Take charge and do it!

    Thanks, the hardest I imagine is figuring out portions. At the chow hall on base I just throw some salad in a bowl , chicken and lots of vegetables. I need to start making my own food in my dorm and using measuring cups.
