Piriformis syndrome

Hi

Does anyone suffer from this , I've been getting really bad pain in my right butt cheek while running so severe that it stopped me completely today , the pain was unbearable
It hurts while I walk aswell , looking up symptoms seems to point to piriformis syndrome which people who run often suffer from
I have flat feet aswell which I think may contribute to it

Any advice ? I plan on visiting doctor as soon as I can but is there anything I can do in the meantime , I'm hating the idea of taking time off from running , my gym just reopened today after being closed for over 10 days so this couldn't have been came at a worse time because I was so excited to get back into my routine today :(

Take a few days off and do these stretches:

If it doesn't clear up you may need to see a doctor.

Look at stretches for piriformis and also for sciatica. The nerves that create these conditions are usually caught in muscle. Think about seeing a chiropractor too. Mine had me walking within minutes after a particularly bad attack and it has never returned. Good luck.

Man nothing is like that sweet horrible pain/relief of someone pushing on your wound up piriformis muscle until it loosens up...

The goal is to not let it get as bad as I let it get though. :)

    Thanks for yer replies

So running is out of the question for a few days ? How about cycling would that be ok ?

Will look into them stretches and get a few in today , I need this healed as soon as possible!
Is there much a normal GP can do for me ?

2-3 days off now is better than a month off later. I feel like sitting on a bike would feel even worse.

Also a GP will probably do one/two/three of these things:

tell you to take some time off and take some ibuprofen & stretch
    give you muscle relaxers
recommend physical therapy (very extreme end)

I suffer from it on and off. The first time it happened, I went to PT and it went away. I had to stop running and cycling for 2 weeks. I would swim, walk, Pilates and elliptical. You do need to strengthen your core. It will help so much. I found a lot of the stretches and workouts at Pilates classes were the same exercises that my PT gave me.

I also will sit on a tennis ball and then put ice on it. I find that helps to minimize and alleviate the pain. I know it sounds weird, but it does help.

From other people I have talked to, it something that can come back. When it does, I try to do whatever I can to minimize and stop the pain.
