Hi all,
Enjoying reading the threads on this site. Quick question for you all regarding traveling and sticking to low carb meals. I am an orchestral musician and I travel a lot, sometimes living weeks on end in a hotel room. Unfortunately, I don't always get a refrigerator in the room, but I always try to request it. I don't have time on the road to eat out for every meal -- nor do I want to. What are some good foods low in sugar to keep on hand for traveling, both requiring and not-requiring refrigeration?
Thanks in advance!
(Modified to add ---- I don't mean simply snacks).

Not got many suggestions, no Fridge and low carb/sugar is difficult!
Vegetable crisps (homemade) for a snack, but they only keep for about 48hours.
Unpeeled fruit, oranges, kiwis, bananas are a good one to have on hand.
Things like carrots, peppers uncut don't need to be refrigerated so could be one to carry around and cut up some veg sticks for the day
If you have a fridge then natural yoghurt for your veggies to dip in, then on fruit too for a little snack
If you have a fridge and are staying somewhere for a few days, buy some cooked meat, and salads and have a cooler bag with you. Just make up your days meals if you will be out and put them in there and leave the rest in the fridge for the next day..
Sorry not very exciting options and not actual meals! Maybe some will come to me, interested to see others' suggestions...0 -
Thanks hammomh! Yes, it's a tricky one - I didn't realize so until the first time I went on the road trying to avoid sugars...!0

I don't do low carb anymore, but when I did, these were my standby items for travel.
If you know you will have a fridge, hard boiled eggs, cheese sticks, lettuce, salad dressing, pre-cooked bacon, lunch meat, etc. These work well in a small cooler as well if you're travelling by car.
If you don't know if you'll have a fridge: canned Vienna sausages, beef jerky, Quest bars/Atkins bars, canned tuna or salmon, nuts, pork rinds with devilled ham, etc.
I didn't find travelling too difficult. Most convenience stores now have a small deli section with cheese sticks and hard boiled eggs. You can get low carb items at all fast food or sit-down restaurants.0 -
My brother was a truck driver for several years and he used a refrigerated cooler in his truck. Maybe you can invest in one?
And if you don't have time for a sit down meal, there are still options at fast food places - you just have to choose wisely.0 -
I carry my own mini fridge in the car that I can take into my hotel room. Mains power but means I'm in control.
Also eating jerky, boiled eggs, cooked sausages, cooked bacon all can be kept for a day with freezer blocks or bought ice bags.
I prepare slow cooked stews in bulk. Then freeze them in individual portions and just take them in the car, it takes about 6/8 hours to defrost, then I eat it cold as you rarely have access to a microwave in a hotel. You get used to it.....0
