New here and seeking advice

Hello all. Firstly I am new here and this is my first post. Just getting that out of the way. And I am sorry if this will be a little long.

I am a 21 year old white male, around 185 pounds. I have no muscle at all. I have body fat but I do not look like a person who needs a electric wheelchair in WalMart. I would say I am average.

I know I can easily lose the weight. The problem here is, I just don't have motivation to work out or eat healthy. I went to to the store and purchased fruits to eat one time and that it was so expensive and the food went bad quickly. I told myself I'll never do that again. I also tell myself that it's too late to look good. I'm 21 and time has run out to have the body I wanted since a teen. And I know it's never too late to do it. I am still young and I have time to get the body I always wanted. I always told myself that I would workout, eat right, etc etc and it never happened. I don't think It ever will.

I am not the healthiest eater in the world but I recently cut out fast food. I had McDonald's last week and that was the first time I had it within a month and a half. I stopped eating Taco Bell completely. So I can say that I kind of started what I want to do. But I still go out to eat with friends and family. I love soda. I cut back on soda too. I use to have three to four cans a day and now I have either one a day, one and a half a day, or some days I might not have any at all. So again, I have started in the right path a little. I did quit cold turkey on soda for a week but I went to the cheesecake factory one day for my friend's bday party and I had a coke and man did it taste good without having it for so long. Ever since that day, I went back into drinking soda but I don't consume as much as I use too. I was told many times that I don't have to quit cold turkey.Just don't drink it as much and eventually I'll stop drinking it (that isn't working yet). I don't eat a lot of junk food anymore. I'll have a snack here and there but I don't have a lot.

My mom, dad and sister all go to the gym. I always tell myself why haven't I started going? Simply because I have no idea what the hell I am doing and how to work that equipment. I don't even know what to wear to a gym and I don't have money to fork out every month for a membership. I also simply don't feel like doing it. I know that sounds bad and it does, but that's how I feel. A few days I went bowling for the first time in a few months. Bowling is exactly like lifting weights, you're working your arm muscles. I went on Sunday and my right arm still hurts from it so I can only Imagine what lifting weights and working out must feel like, and I do, here is why: I lifeguard during the summer. I have been for 5 years. 2014 summer will be my 6th summer lifeguarding. It's all moving, being active, walking, the running, pushing heavy people down the slide, is a work out. At the beginning of every summer, my body aches all over but eventually i get use to all the activity and the hurting goes away.

I know working out will hurt and be challenging. If my arm hurts nearly 7 days i went bowling, I don't want to deal with the pain, which I also told myself and another reason why I don't have the motivation to work out.

I don't know how to lose weight. My body is so use to what I normally eat. Even If i did work out and started to eat healthy and losing weight, there would be no way I would gain muscle and lose the weight in my belief. I would still look exactly the same as I do now, a flabby stomach and arms.

You seem to do well with life guarding. I'm sure you just haven't found other activities. There ARE activities to do that are "enjoyable" and considered as exercise. Take hiking for instance. You can set your own pace...hike where you want....when you want...and how long you hike is also up to you.

Maybe playing ball would better suit you. Or tennis. Roller skating.

    Just tossing out some ideas.

At least you're honest about yourself.

    Thank you for responding.

I love lifeguarding. It is so rewarding, not only do I get the exercise I need, I also save lives.

I use to play sports when I was younger, I just lost interest in them when I reached middle school.

I also like playing Dance Dance Revolution. That is a good form of exercise. In reality, DDR replaces running in general since it basically is running, with a nice fun twist to it. But just playing DDR isnt going to be enough to get the goals that I want.

To be completely honest, I want to look like an Abercrombie or Hollister Model. I am so jealous when I see someone like that and I always tell myself, I can look like that, I just need to start working out, which I haven't done yet.
