Does anyone know the trick to non slimy hash browns?

I dont even need healthy ones, just need to know how to make them not so slimy.

    squeeze the water out of the potatoes after shreading them...
  • your pan isn't hot enough and too much oil, thats the problem i generally have if they come out slimy. heat your pan then add only about a tsp of canola oil then when thats heated add the shredded potatoes

    I like the Alexia hash browns, they cook the best...key is to get the pan really hot...like before a fire starts hot...add your oil about (1/4 cup or less)...throw the hash browns in...let them sit a long time...do not be a super flipper otherwise they mush up

    Thanks for the advise, I am hearing the rinsing thing a lot. i will have to try that and heating the pan first would probably help.

    rinse the starch out and then put through a salad spinner, pat dry. makes perfect hash browns every time. the key is for them to be as dry as possible. :)

    you don't need much oil, either. especially if you use a good, heavy skillet like cast iron. (tip: the starches react with cast iron and make the potatoes green if they aren't rinsed well enough)
