Well... that escalated quickly!

So I decided to take Christmas off after making great progress since 22nd of September last year... I have taken 2 weeks off from today and managed to gain 11lb's... In my final weigh in before Christmas I got down to 18st 10lbs (262lb's) and felt great... I had come down from 21st 7lbs (301lbs)

Now people might think I am stupid to chuck it in completely but I worked so hard up until Christmas and gave myself a goal of enjoying everything I ate over the holiday. I have really enjoyed beer and food but if I am honest I couldn't wait to get back on it... I have really missed how good it makes you feel when you are working out and eating well...

Now the reason for this post is I decided to start back yesterday... I woke up feeling good and weighed myself - I went downstairs and measured out some bran flakes and went to work... Lunch time I had soup and rice crackers... really enjoyed it and thought about what workout I would do after work... for Dinner I had a Salmon stir fry with a low fat sauce... After logging all of my food I was at 850 calories and couldn't believe how low this was... thinking I better get the cals up to atleast 1200 (even though my target is 1900) I looked in the fridge and cupboards... now at this point I am really not hungry but spotted the biggest bar of Cadburys chocolate and found myself chomping on it seconds later... I literally just said ahhh sod it I will start tomorrow... HAHA for some reason I had decided I wouldn't bother with the gym and that was it for today...

Woke up this morning and decided I couldn't be bothered again and as Saturday is my usual weigh in day I would have another day off!

I honestly feel shocked at how much I couldn't be arsed to get back on this even though 2 days ago I couldn't wait to start...

Anyway I realise I am seriously chatting rubbish now so I am going to wind it up pretty quickly... I have just taken a load of pictures and it aint pretty - It has made me think I need to hit the gym tomorrow... throw out all of the junk I have left over for christmas and really start again!

If anyone wants to add me feel free as I could do with the encouragement... Got a couple of lads who have added me recently and it really does spur you on seeing others working out and eating well everyday.

All the best to everyone and I think I needed to write this down so I can get going!

Wish me luck!

I think last year (after making a New Years resolution) I didn't actually get on it till the 11th or so, lol!

Just get there. Jump in. You can do it, and it gets pretty easy, really, once it becomes more of a habit :)

Firstly, congratulations on an excellent thread title. Really, first class. Secondly, I am also feeling a post Christmas indulgence related lack of motivation for my diet and exercise routine. I don't go to the gym, I prefer to use exercise dvds or get outside. This week has been hard but doing even as little as 20 minutes of a workout video made me feel better and I was then motivated to eat better that day because of it. A short walk or just some star jumps, anything to get you moving could be all you need to get back on it!

Or, play the Rocky theme tune. That should work too.

I added you because of the anchorman reference and ET avatar all by themselves. Well done!

That said, inertia is a b***h.
Sometimes you have to just dive back on in. Once you start working out and form those good habits again, you'll be fine.
  • I feel ya! My food has been so so this week and I've been getting exercise in every day so far bar Thursday...but I need to kick it ups notch cause I'm feeling inertia like woah!

    Our stories are similar...

After losing ten pounds, I discovered MFP at the beginning of September. I worked hard and lost another 24 (still have 60 to go). On December 20th I decided to take a break from dieting, logging and exercise and just enjoy the holiday. I don't think you were stupid at all. Losing weight takes a lot of focus, determination and consistency in order to be successful. My "break" lasted 12 days, and like you, I missed how good it felt to eat properly and participate in a really good workout.

But New Year's Day came with a thud and after all the tasty meals and my body reverting to its original "couch potato" position - I am once again focused on my goals for 2014! This included giving away, throwing out or freezing (in a far away freezer) all the left over crap from Christmas/New Years!

If I can do this - you can do this! You made a promise to yourself to get healthy and feel awesome in that tux - now... Go Do It!!

    You don't need any luck:flowerforyou:

Your problem is you're looking at it wrong. You don't have to eat soup and low fat stir fry to lose weight. You just have to eat at a calorie deficit. Have a bit of chocolate! Just eat it in moderation within your goal and you'll be less likely to give up or binge and eat the whole box... it will still be there tomorrow.

I hope you get back on track quickly! I have fallen off the wagon big time in December and I have put on a whopping 20 pounds.... Yeah, apparently I can do that... I am a bit concerned about that! Need to stay focussed on goals , food will always be there and it is not going away. I try to tell myself that, maybe it will work for you too! I am back on track for the past 2 days, need to make it last! Good luck in achieving your goals!

It's really hard to get back on track with the Christmas goodies still lurking in the cupboards. We have a huge Thorntons santa that calls me every time I open the fridge:wink:
If, like me, you have trouble with portion control, (I really admire people who can eat just one chocolate) then you have a number of choices, either dump the goodies (take them to work, throw them in the bin), get the rest of the family to eat them, try packing them in individual bags labelled with their calories and have one a day. On the chocolate day you had about 800 calories left, that's a lot of Cadbury's.
Log what you eat, even if you know you've gone out of control, sometimes it's not as bad as you think.
You can do this, just got to get the mindset right again!

^^^This. You can eat anything in moderation, IIFYM (if it fits your macros).

I started in September too and have lost just a little over 20 pounds (wish I could do the conversions as you were so kind to do!) But luckily, I had caught on to what Fran said before the holidays struck, so I never did more than a cheat day over the holidays. In fact I did two and I didn't feel bad about them. One at my office holiday party and one on New Year's Eve (I didn't go crazy. I just didn't worry too much about it, or count it, except a little in my head ;) ) . From Thanksgiving - Jan 1st though, I had my share of extra cookies and cocktails, because I can't do this for life if I am not allowed to enjoy things like cookies and cocktails, but I just made room for them in my calories or did some extra moving if I decided to indulge.

Now that the holidays are over and I don't feel like I suffered from eating healthy, I think I can probably do this for life.

So, get back on. You can obviously do this. You've made amazing progress! But try to balance it so that you don't feel like it is something you need a break from. You should let yourself enjoy and indulge. Have a cheat meal once a week. Have some chocolate every day if you want to! (just not the biggest bar you can find ;o) )
