Hello everyone! Is anyone here a lolita? As in, wearers of the Japanese fashion, NOTHING to do with the book.
If you are, please add me! I'd love to make some lolita friends! I'm in Germany if that helps. :flowerforyou:

I love lolita fashions and Japanese fashion in general. Gothic, sweet, Wa, all of them! ^_^!
It is definitely one of the reasons I want to lose weight and get fit.
Edit: I don't know whether I am missing something, but why would the OP expect creeper messages? Does Lolita also mean something else to some people?0 -

No doubt this thread will be misinterpreted by many, but me myself have been a fan of Japanese subcultures for years including lolita fashion but more specifically gothic lolita.
No doubt this thread will end badly tho.0 -

this is my view on the matter as well. The Japanese have an amazing culture, it's all intriguing to me.0 -
One of my rewards when I reach my goal weight (which may/may not be the one I have set right now) is to buy a cute JSK outfit. What brands do you like? I see a lot of cool stuff from Angelic Pretty and Excentrique.0

I love the fashion and will purchase and wear it more once I achieve more weight loss. I prefer the classic Lolita but I do have this coat though... which is obviously sweet. PS: It has a cotton tail on the back!

Surprisingly, I've had none! Only one friend request from a girl about my age. Thank you for the concern though. :flowerforyou:
Aww I wish I could edit my first post to make this a little clearer, I know there's a lot of confusion, but basically lolita fashion stems from Japan, with a Victorian influence, meaning it's mostly dresses with a princess-like design. It's a fashion style that began around 1960/1970 as an alternative style, and it's become very popular not just in its country or origin, but internationally too.
The word "lolita" itself attracts a lot of negativity and confusion because most people think of the book by Vladimir Nabokov, which is heavily controversial, however the fashion is completely unrelated. The fashion aims to be elegant, and not at all sexy, and it is frowned upon if a dress is too short or anything like that, the acceptable length being knee-length or longer.
Why the name "lolita" is used, I'm unsure, but it's most likely due to its dolly-like style.
You can read all about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lolita_fashion
But yeah, I just wanted to reach out to anyone else who had a passion for Japanese culture like myself. :flowerforyou:0 -
margaritas sounds better0

As the wikipedia article cannot specify the source of the name lolita for these fashions and this trend, I must say. If I were still in college and had access to moneys spending for studies, THIS would be my topic. Research, suss out or otherwise hunt down the true source of the name "lolita" for said fashion.
Even though enthusiasts claim that is not "their" intent in wearing the garb and that it is quite modest, I am NOT convinced that it did not start as an appeal to male pedophilic fantasy that became adopted by ppl who simply saw the beauty and rebelliousness against the fashion world in it. This rebellious hint also intrigues me. As do the quality claims of said fashion, and the cultural origins and the worldwide spread and use of it. Also the psychology of those who enjoy it or draw to it.
Thank you OP for a really intriguing topic on so many levels. I'm interested in this as a research topic, but only if funded, lol. I'm not inclined to research that much fluff and ruffles without being paid! Also, while cute and appealing in the quality claims, I live in LA and what I found I would not wear out of my house. I'm not a youngster though. I can see how a young girl or youngish woman might be drawn to it. As a lover of *****bow blouses, peter pan necklines, pleats, tailoring, light ruffling, chiffon fabrics and etc, in regular fashion, this does stir something in me. It's just I'm more inclined to mesh those details with classic modern silhouettes. If I were young and had the freedom to express myself fully at any time in myy life though? I think this would be quite appealing. Even though I believe it would raise the same eyebrows from my father that my cheer attire, and love for all things Madonna did.
eta: a photo of the blouse who's name was edited b/c it contains a name that's used for womens vag.

That's really interesting. It's actually such a shame you're not conducting research, I would truly love to read your findings. If you ever get the funding and want to speak to someone to gather information, you're welcome to contact me, and you're more than welcome to add me as a friend here.
Yes I was actually very disappointed that the word "lolita" seems to have no origin. I would love to maybe interview an elder who wore lolita in her younger years to hear about what it stood for before. But who knows if it was called lolita back then. I wonder if it's like the Geisha misunderstanding - people all over think they were callgirls but the truth is, callgirls impersonated them after the war and that's how they got their reputation. A real Geisha simply entertained people, with music or singing or art.
But now, as it is, lolita is cute fashion meant to inspire something that seems absent these days, I feel. I like it because I like wearing cute things, and I like pastel colours (my style being the sweet style).
And just a note, MyChocolateDiet, you're never too old to wear what you like. :flowerforyou:0 -

Oops sorry to double post here, but I wanted to answer this!
Brand wise, I like Baby The Stars Shine Bright, Angelic Pretty (their bags, omg) but I also like a lot of off-brand from taobao. ^_^0 -
