MFP - Best thing that happened to me

I've been 'obese' now for 7 years. Time just flew by.
It started when I stopped playing rugby/football and slowly stopped going to the gym altogether.
In 2006, I weighed 200 lbs, fit, athletic and in top shape.
In 2007, I weighed 220 lbs. Still strong, could lift a lot. Drank a lot of alcohol... college style( Key stands! yay)
In 2008, I weighed 240 lbs. Still had strong lifts, started doing less cardio and just lifted heavier and heavier. Looked fine, I think?
In 2009, I weighed 270 lbs. Stopped lifting, pure fat but still had my strength. Told myself it's ok because I can bench '315' and deadlift 600 lbs.
2009 - 2013 September:
I weighed around 270 lbs - 280 lbs. 0 exercise 0 activity. Still enjoyed nights out and drinking. Didn't care to get back into shape.
Wanted to lose weight at some point and tried twice but....
2 failed diet attempts - One starving(skipping dinner) and exercising. Lost 30 lbs in 2 months then regained it all back.
One eating healthy/exercising , lost around 15-20 lbs, but got pneumonia and bad eating habit returned.
2013 September, friend told me his g/f uses MYFITNESSPAL to keep track of calories on the phone.
Signed up, started logging, started lifting again 5- 6x / week. used the community posts and 4 months later...
Lost 30 lbs.
This is the longest I've stuck to a plan and diet and it's a manageable amount where I feel like I can do it for the rest of my life.
Never knew what food had what calories up to now so I'm glad I became 'educated'.
Thanks! I'll keep trucking to get to my goal weight of 200 lbs in 2014! gl to you all!
Ed

Thanks guys! Wanted to motivate new members as well.
I know how tough it is when you first start out fresh after multiple failures.
You get the idea in your head that you might possibly fail once again.
But with MFP, calorie logging, and a great community it's completely different.
Lets get it done!

Fantastic story - thanks for sharing
Just over a year ago I was looking for free apps and downloaded mfp thinking 'meh, I'll probably have a peek at it but i doubt it'll be any good'. So happy I was so wrong: in the last year I have lost 25kg (about 57lb), my health and fitness have improved beyond belief (I am actually starting to jog a little!), and I have made some amazing friends who have given me support, cheered me on and helped me through the bumps in the road along the way. Like you, I also have never stuck with any diet or fitness plan for this long and going into my 2nd year I am fitter than I have ever been in my adult life, and excited about the new possibilities before me.
Who knew that downloading a free app one day because I was bored could change my life?
Good luck to you all on continuing your health journey - you can do it!0
