I just started trying Pilates for the first time and have discovered that t I no longer have even the basics of core muscles, I cant tell you have emotional I got not being able to do a sit up! lol my hip bones also pop when I do the up and down leg alternations.
Is this normal? or do I need to focus on conditioning by body before even doing beginner pilates? Please help me find out bc I am determined to workout this time.

I am certainly NO expert here...but I do love 'my' pilates. However, my background is in dance, so I think I understand the what it needed in order to do the exercises correctly. All moves center around the core's strength. My advice to you is to attend a pilates class (perhaps just attend a floor/mat class) and have the instructor lead and instruct you on each of the moves.
Watch or purchase some classes too - I'm sure there are some that really educate the student on how to hold and condition the body so that it is doing the exercises correctly.
Good luck!0 -
If you like the Pilates, keep going. Just tell your instructor before class starts that your are new so the can suggest modifications for you while you build up your strength.0

It looks like you just have a baby recently from your profile. I would just take it slowly and rebuild you core muscles slowly before doing anything too strenuous. For me at least, my core muscles were complete mush after both kids but after a few weeks of easy workouts some muscle memory came back. Start simple. Do some planks on your knees, some knee pushups, leg drops with you knees bent. Doing straight leg knee drops right so soon after having a baby would be hard.0

If you're using Cassey Ho's videos, make sure to check out her "Beginner's Calendar" and "Beginner's Workouts" they'll show you how to properly hold your muscles and your breathing. Also, remain consistent. I literally cried the first few times I did her workouts because I was nowhere near the level I used to be and nowhere near being able to complete the workouts. Remember that it's okay if you have to stop and jump back in later! Just make sure you do get the proper techniques so you don't hurt yourself.0
