What kind of rewards have you given yourself for reaching a goal?

When I hit my big goal last year of a 100 mile cycle ride I bought myself a new bike and cycling shoes.

This year I'm taking up squash again and plan on buying myself a new knee brace - my existing one is over 20 years old and, like me, a bit knocked about and past its best!

I've got a wee piggy bank I put money in for hitting certain goals, new workout records, losing x weight, so many weeks of consistent good eating/exercising etc. When It's full I'm smash it open and get myself something nice with the money!
  • I got new clothes that fit!!! If I gain a little back, I remind myself that I cannot afford new clothes again and I love my new things so... Get back to it!!!

I was thinking long the same lines, except I think I'll "pay" myself every time I workout instead of just when I reach a certain goal (or maybe a goal could be a bonus amount). I'm not sure how much yet, but I'm still working out the math so that I can be rewarded in a reasonable amount of time (and not be too discouraged). Then my husband and I will take a trip somewhere (staycation or maybe something bigger).

OP: Thanks for asking the question, I was just going to do the same. Looking forward to seeing other responses.

a nice ipod, a tattoo, a weekend away with the girls, new clothes, a massage. I try to do bigger rewards to bigger goals =)

  • a massage is always rewarding & beneficial for hitting milestone goals. Maybe every 10lbs or 15lbs, depending on your goals. I've been told that rewarding with FOOD or treats is not very good- creates bad habits and mixed messages.

I do not reward myself with food, because I am not a dog. I do not reward myself with clothes, because I am not a mannequin. If the increase in health and self-confidence were not sufficient rewards for me, I would have quit trying long ago.

    But, that's just me.

I guess I don't really do rewards anymore. I eat my favorite foods all the time. I buy clothes when I need them or when I see something I really, really like (as in, so much that I am still thinking about it a week after seeing it). I get regular massages as a matter of muscle recovery and stress relief. I hate to put a condescending spin on it because I definitely understand the motivational aspect of it, especially for people who still have a long way to go. But I just think life is too short to not "reward" yourself whenever you have the opportunity. Don't wait until you've done something that you think makes you "deserving" of having something nice. If you're a good person and you work hard at whatever it is that your life is about, you ARE deserving.
