At Home Workouts

Hi everyone! I am new to MFP! I'm ready to lose this weight! I go to a kickboxing class two nights a week (which is extremely hard as I'm pretty overweight at this time - but I soldier on). I am looking for at home workout routines though. I have two small kids and the winters are pretty crazy where I live...so outdoor workouts are not ideal in the winter  . Can anyone direct me? I need a good, hearty workout more than twice a week.

Thanks!

Kickboxing is cardio....so you might want to add strength training. As a beginner you can start with body weight exercises.....I like this one

As you progress you can add weights to the mix.

Yoga is great too....it's not a big calorie burner, but for overall health (stress reduction, flexibility, balance) ....it's a great add-on. I do a couple short workouts each week. I like:

  • It's a more expensive option, but you could get yourself an Xbox One and see the greatness that is Xbox Fitness. It has a variety of workouts, and is great for beginners to pros!

You may like Turbo Fire (or Turbo Jam. I have only done turbo fire). It's a mix of kickboxing and kind of dancey. It's fun with good music. I started it at my gym, then bought the dvds for my house. I also just started t25 today and really like it. If your not wanting to go the beach body route and spend to much money, I bought a Jillian Michaels kick boxing dvd @ Target that wasn't to bad. BTW I am not a beach body coach, I just have a couple of their programs, lol.

If you search for Fitness Blender Low Impact Cardio on youtube, you'll find the video I use for my home workout.

Free online workout videos, I suggest the 30 day challenge. They do strength training, cardio, and ab workouts.

Another option if you have a smartphone is Sworkit. No equipment required and you can customize your workouts to target different areas. There are several apps like this, but I like this one the most (currently). There are also YouTube channels that have some good ones.
  • Honestly, it really depends on what you like to do... I do a lot of my home fitness with Youtube. A couple of the channels I frequent are FitnessBlender, BeFit, Scola Dondo, ToneItUp, and Blogilates. If you like dancing, you can simply search "dance workout" and you will get a ton of results. BeFit uploads a lot of actual DVD videos. If you are new to exercise and you want some more low impact stuff, Keaira Lashae and Tiffany Rothe (both youtube) have some great options. Blogilates is more pilates and toning, and she has some beginners options as well -- which I would highly suggest starting with, so you can learn proper form. Scola Dondo is the youngest, but she is very inspiring and has fun afrobeat dance workouts as well as toning exercises. :) I hope this helped!

Do you have a wii? Wii dance games are great, and the kids can play too.
