I know its a hot topic on here...but i used to take "beeline slimmers" tablets...and i didnt feel they made much of a difference, but i wasnt on a good diet like i have been since i started on MFP. should i start taking them again? or wait till i hit a weight loss slump and see if they can help me on my way again?

You know, I thought about it too. I've lost a little over 20 lbs here and wanted to give into the temptation of an easy quick fix. But even during the plateaus I've decided that i don't want to add anything artificial in knowing I'll probably screw up my metabolism. Why don't you see what you can lose without them.

My opinion is never, never take pills to diet. I've lost 25lbs in the last 75 days by eating smaller portions (still of the types of food i love to eat incl. pizza, lasagna, birthday cake etc) in MODERATION and also exercise. You do NOT need diet pills.

I say stick it out with just the diet and exercise. The pills are a quick fix, but the possible damage they can do to your body over the long run, I dont think its worth it.

Personally they have never worked for me, so I stay away from them

They also use to increase my heart rate, and it was a scary feeling, so I stay far away from them.

    Stay away from pills...

I can't ever believe they would be "good" for you, or even help you lose weight and keep it off... they can do more harm than good IMHO.. Once you stop the pills then what? for some a reliance has been built upon using them and once off weight comes back.

Learn to manage your calories, watch your intake and exercise YOU WILL BE SUCCESSFUL and you will have learned to do it for yourself. :) Change your lifestyle... change your life!

    Cheers

Even asprins have side effects! When the BIG pills Pondimon (sp) & Adipec came out i had great results.and lost 72 pounds. On the other hand...My friend died from a result of taking them. And,if you don't be careful.......the weight comes back quickly! This is of course my own personal opinion.....but what i am trying to say is research!!!!! And,i guess your starting at the right place because your thinking about it and asking......But,there is lots of support here. Really it's what you eat and the choices that you make that makes you! Good luck on finding your answers.

The fact of the matter is, with any of those WL pills... if you read the bottle it will say "with proper diet & exercise"... so if you just do proper diet and exercise you should be on the right page to begin with.

Those pills work for some people because it's like a "mind puzzle" ... you trick your mind into thinking, if I take this pill, this will happen... when in reality if you do what you need to do in the first place, it will happen without the pills.
  • yeah i guess if i stopped taking them and had not made any diet changes then i would just put back on all the weight! plus i did hear that alli does make your food literally fly out your backside :P so no thank you on that one :P
thank you all so much for your support! i think having eachother is half the battle...<3

THis is partially true, but in the case of Phenterimine (Adipex), it does raise both your exercising and sitting heart rate, which does in fact burn more calories. It is a perscription stimulant. If you are exercising and taking the pills, you do get an increased effect.
  • I say that you should try it on your own. You should be able to do this by counting calories and exercising.

  I had a friend who is always taking the newest fad of pills and well she of course tried this one and raved and raved about it and one time we were out shopping, had eaten and 20 minutes later she was literally running to the bathroom. I was like what the heck? She came out and said she had to go home. I later found out she didn't make it to the bathroom. She said liquid poos and farts were the norm for her but she was so excited she was losing weight. We all could lose weight if we took laxatives and crapped ourselves inside out. Be very very careful with the fad pills ladies.

There is a new one that was just discussed on my facebook wall something about taking this pill/powder and consuming only 520 calories you can do it for 30 or 40 days. Well HELLO if your only consuming 520 calories your bound to drop 2-3 pounds every couple of days. DOH! :grumble:

I take supplements. Not diet pills...supplements. I know there is no magic pill. I workout and adjust what I eat. I look for supplements that will enhance that, not replace it. I don't read advertisements or personal stories. I look for information with independent testing from a laboratory listed in the study. Many I take are thermogenics. They take some getting used to so should be used with care. High BP..stay away. Caffeine is one of the best out there, and the negative effects are incorrect. Ephedra? Yep, people died because they failed to read the side of the box and over dosed. Is that the fault of the company? Nope. It is up to the person to know what they are taking and how it will affect them. Green tea. Numerous benefits including caffeine. if you are going to take it, do a little research. Make sure you are getting enough ECGC to be effective (remember not from the company trying to sell you a product).
Notice I didn't list a particular brand. i don't like them. I can't tell what is in them and what dosage.

Work hard. Make life changing adjustments. If something can get you there a little quicker, i see nothing wrong with it.

i understand some people agree and some people disaggree
but if u manage the fat intake the pills should be ok
iv bn fine with them no orange mess ...yet...
but if u eat something with alot of fat then yes obvcourse there is going to be side affects
i feel they have been working for me and i struggle to loose weight and i stick to the books no junk food and plenty of water and exercise so i feel they are a good aid
but there the same as any medication if you dont use them wisely there are side affects x

I believe you always have to do what is best for you. Make sure you consider the risks to your body and anything else. I'm always cautious of pills like this because i want to ensure they dont screw up my birth control (dont want any surprises.)

This year, before coming to MFP, I tried diet pills (healthy trim) and prescription diet pills I had to pay a dr. to give me - both led to a quick loss in a week, that did not stick. and both kind of made me ill.

In my weight loss history the ONLY time I have had success is with cutting calories and excercising alot. I've done a lot of quick fixes and seen short term big losses, but they've never stuck.

Changing your habits and perspective, and making excercise a staple in your life will probably be the best and MOST effective method.

p.s. a girl in my office lost 70lbs in about 6 months just by cutting cals/eating Healthy food/and excercising 5 times a week(mainly cardio but strength 3 times a week)'

You can DO IT :) **so can I :) I'm believing that my lbs lost will be impressive in a couple months here
