Hi I'm starting couch to 5k but this might seem like a stupid question? I went running over christmas and I had my phone, keys and water bottle in my hands and felt hindered?
Do people buy bum bags (fanny packs) or things?
I was using endemondo (sp?) so needed my phone and I need my keys as I live in a house share.
I've never ran before, I normally swim and you get a locker there

You don't need a bottle..it is only 30 mins
I stashed my house keys, or took the main one and just held it. My phone fits into my little pockets.

Keys - Get one individual house key cut. When it is cold, you could wear running gloves and some have a pocket integrated to carry one key.
Phone - you can get one of those arm bands that are designed to carry a phone. If the purpose of the phone is to track your run, you could get a GPS watch
Water - not too necessary for running up to 5k, although each to their own preference (you shouldnt dehydrate at least).0 -
I have a key holder that goes around my waist-- looks like a belt almost, i can wear it under my clothes and it can hold my key and ID, and other things-- i just put my key on it.
My phone i put on an armband-- i found an armband and wireless headphones on groupon for a good price.
i drink a lot of water and like to drink when I workout-- I have used a camelbak and i hate it-- felt like it bounced too much. Now i have a 10 oz water bottle that I carry. I dont mind it, its conformed to fit around the grip of your hand and has a hand holder.0 -

They make running packs. You can pretty much buy them anywhere this time of the year. They are sort of like fanny packs, but more slim and better fitting so they don't bounce as you run.
For your key....I would look into buying pants or tops that have the zippered running pocket. With pants they are usually around the waist line or on the small of your back. Works great for keys.
As for water....you can negate the key pocket and the running pouch by getting a running bottle. Sort of like this:

^^^This.. I have one of these bottles and like it, it keeps my id and keys stored, I even carry pepper spray in it, the hand hold keeps in on my hand and I don't have to feel like I am holding the bottle all the time. I also have an arm band that I use for my phone and have tucked a single key in my arm band behind my phone to, that way it is secure, That would work as well.0 -
^^I Have that bottle. You might also find a group to run with that puts water out for runners. Check with your local running store.0

I have the same bottle... it is great. (Though the carrier/hand hold part of mine is greet, not pink
I totally agree with this. Single house/car key in the pocket.
As for the phone itself, there are plenty of armbands if that's what you want but you can also consider a SPIBelt... an elastic belt with a small, expandable zippered pouch. I keep my phone and key in there (if I'm not running with the bottle) and have room for some running fuel (gu or cliff shot bloks) for longer runs.
I agree that you should carry water if you feel you need to, but I will say that your need for water will probably evolve if you continue to run and run longer distances.
I started out carrying water on every run in C25K. By about 6 months later, I was only carrying it on longer runs (4 - 6 miles).
Nowadays, I pretty much don't carry/drink water on most runs that are less than an hour (5 - 6 miles)... unless it is very hot and I'm sweating a LOT. I make sure I am hydrated before the run, and that I have water available for when I finish - but on the run I don't really need it.

Encouragement about the water: I brought water for the first couple weeks. It was so hard to run that I was gasping for air a lot which made my mouth feel so dry and I would feel soooo thirsty! I just started week four though and it's not nearly as bad. I don't get a dry mouth and although I still breath heavily on some of the runs I'm not gasping like a fish out of water anymore, lol. And yesterday I finally hit a groove while running and actually felt like I could really "be a runner" and run longer distances! Before that I've always hated running and felt like I could never do it. I only started C25K for my husband. He runs (he's in the army) and he really wanted to be able to run together. I'm glad I started for him though because now I'm enjoying it for myself!0

I hate carrying a water bottle.
I have an armband for my phone for short runs.
I normally either keep everything on my jogging stroller, or if I'm up 6+ miles I have a hydration pack that I LOVE.
Its a Nathans, and my only regret is not getting one with more room in it.

*edit. You have to be careful with the water. Pretty much I try to ween myself to using a minimal amount of water, or I just guzzle it. It takes time. I can go though 750ml bottle in 30 minuts. I think part of it is a mental mind game. Which is what a lot of running turns out to be.0 -

Not stupid at all. These are "normal" start-up questions.
1. you won't need a water bottle for C25K. The training sessions are only 30 minutes long. If you're panting so much that you need water, you may be running too fast.
2. have a key cut and use a safety pin to pin it into a pocket; put your phone in the pocket as well. In spring/fall, a light vest with a zipper pocket is ideal, if you have one (then you may not need the safety pin for the key). In winter, a runner's jacket works well: lots of zipper pockets and light-weight.
3. some yoga-type pants have a tiny zipped pocket to hold the key. These are nice but they can be hard to find.

Thread your key through your shoe lace. I'd ditch the waterbottle since it's not too long. Then you could either carry your phone or tuck it in your bra.0

Water-I carry water because I feel like my lungs dry out in the winter (and in the summer in North Texas it gets to be 116+ water is required!
Phone- armband
Key- I either slip the single key on it's own ring and slip it onto my finger or double knot it to my shoelaces0 -
I use a SPIbelt for my phone and there's no need for water on a 30 minute run. I actually find that bringing water gives me an excuse to stop and walk. When I don't have it I don't want it.0
