hi!
i am currently at 127.4 kg which is over 250lb i think and working on losing the weight. gyms are super expensive in my part of the world and i was thinking i would start with just eating healthy and taking walks for the next 6 months before trying out any "real" exercise. my question is, is this a sensible way of going about losing weight or is exercise a must right from the get go?

Walking is exercise! Exercise doesn't just happen in gyms0

calorie deficit = weight loss. if your goal is to only lose weight, you can do so by a proper diet. you don't HAVE to ever set foot in a gym to lose weight.0

this
plus, you could always work out at home?0 -
in your opinion, what is a real exercise, and why can't you do it yet?0

Running is for free! You can do it everywhere, you don't need any equipment or subsriction... Only thing you need is to stay motivated
And it burns so many calories that you can eat normally, not starve on diet Just no junk food!0 -
I would strongly recommend it. I believe that any diet should allow you to eat what you want and so exercise should be included to account for times when you fancy eating something that will inevitably push you over your recommended calorie allowance.
Besides, why not see exercise as something enjoyable rather than just something necessary for weight loss?0 -
I lost my weight just by walking at home for the first 6 months. I work from home so managed to use my house as a gym for walking. I have an island in my kitchen (large one) and I would just walk laps around that 10 minute here, 15 minutes there and also go up and down the stairs. I just made sure I kept moving. I bought hand dumbbells and do stuff with that at home as well. I do now belong to a gym but still do my walks and work outs at home and then go to the gym at night now but at least if I don't want to go tot he gym I know I can do this at home. Utilize what you have at home you will be surprised at what you can do. Lots of you tube videos on exercise you can do at home using things you have at home.
Good luck,0 -
any exercise is "real" exercise! Everyone who suggested walking is right, but I would still highly recommend joining a gym. When I started my journey I was 200lbs and I thought that going to the gym would be pointless until i lost weight, but once i started running and lifting weights I started seeing a difference immediately! If a gym really is out of your price range, I still suggest buy a yoga mat and some light free weights - all can be found inexpensively and you can start doing workouts at home!0

when is the right time to eat breakfast??? before ecercise or after???0

Still better than exercising your fingers on a remote on the couch I guess.
Walking is good - then move on to power walk to eventually start running.
Go in a park - kids area are great for body weight exercises - different inclinations make an exercise go from super easy to super hard!0 -

whenever you want.
I don't eat breakfast till 10 or so typically.
as for before or after exercise it depends on what you are doing and how strenous.
If you are walking? I would eat it whenever. as long as it wasn't a big huge meal.
If you are doing something more strenuous- I would try to work on getting to the point of working fasted- meaning not eating in the morning- it personally takes me some time to work up to that- I feel super sick when I start doing it- then my body adjusts and I'm fine.
It depends on what you want- how you feel- there is no RIGHT answer to this. If you work out without eating- you may get dry heaves- most of the time this goes away as your body adjusts- for me it takes 10 - 14 days for me to adjust- and then I'm completely fine- no issues.
If you can get up and have a little snack- and then go work out- that's great.
If you can get up and go straight to working out- that's great too.0 -

before. or after.0 -
Anything you do, if you just do it, is the right thing to do. If you're not yet comfortable with a gym setting or active enough for aerobics etc., then walking sounds good to me. Remember, the outdoors are free. So Giv'er and Get'er!!0

i put it in inverted commas because i do know that walking is exercise, what i meant was using the treadmill, those exercise bikes etc one finds in the gym feels more like working out-like you're serious about working out than walking a couple of kilometres. i know its probably not smart to think that way though.0

i'll try that soon. maybe after 9 weeks, just to ease into it. i also heard that SWIMMING is very good exercise, but im waaay too self-conscious to do that  :sad:0
