Giving up sweets was hardest.

So far my journey to better health is going well. Reducing my calories wasn't the greatest, but it's becoming easier. Once I got a plan in order at the gym it helped quite a bit. I think that the hardest part has been giving up sweets. I've always had a sweet tooth. I love to cook and brownies/cookies were always an easy fix. What has been the hardest catagory of food for everyone to give up?

I havent given anything up, aside from wheat/gluten but that's due to an intolerance and some bowel issues (though sometimes I just eat a pizza and suffer). Moderation, if you can manage it, is awesome.
  • Hi,

I'm the same! I'm pretty sure all my teeth count as my 'sweet tooth'; which is awful, but I'm trying to cut out all dessert-type things now - and it is a real struggle. I'm sure (hoping) it'll get easier with time though!

The hardest thing I have done in the last 19 months was to learn moderation. It was a big change for me. But, realistically, I did not want to spend the rest of my life having to avoid things that I love. The biggest gift you can give yourself is to learn to control your eating habits. Not in an obsessive way - but the way people of normal weight do. Eat one brownie - not the whole pan.

It's a hard lesson but PRICELESS in the months I've been at a calorie deficit. This makes adherence much easier.

Amy my reasoning for giving up sweets was due to looking at calorie count and fat. When I realized that I could have something that filled me up more for less calories and fat.. I love Snickers Bars but realized they're 296 Cal w/ 148 coming from fat. Moderation isnt' my strong trait. It's prob easy for me to avoid all together than to take one bite and no more.
