What are some healthy staples on your grocery list?

Okay so, I would like to start eating healthier, then I normally do. However, I have a couple obstacles in my way.

I'm on a VERY tight income, and then there is the other 5 people in my family I have to cook for. Four of them being being picky children with holes in there stomachs, because they will eat me out of house and home!! >;0

What kinds of things do you buy when you go shopping ?

    Greek yogurt
    peanut butter
    lean meat
    vegetables
    fruit
    100% whole grain bread

All available in bulk from costco
All stuff that is perfect for kids.

Best of luck! Eating with others adds to the challenge for sure. But it can be done.

I buy chicken leg quarters and skin them at home. They are way cheaper that way. Dry beans are another inexpensive (although not complete) protein source. Frozen veggies are a better buy when veggie is out of season and some may argue are even more nutritious. I usually make oatmeal for breakfast a couple of days a week and sometimes add an egg on top for extra protein. I have 3 bottomless pits (kids) so understand your plight. Franks hot sauce works on my pickiest eater but he likes stuff hot.
  • Oatmeal - rolled oats in the can, not the instant kind.
    Vanilla Almond Milk
Lean meats - chicken breast, ground turkey, lean beef.
    Eggs and egg whites.
    Greek yogurt
    Frozen vegetables.
    Berries (straw, blue, and black)
    Kale and spinach.
    Sweet potatoes

If you stay near an Aldi, Wal-mart matches the prices on their produce. I usually take their add and rack up on fruits and veggies.

My kids are picky eaters too so I had to make a couple of changes to the recipes I cook to get them to eat (i.e. add honey to carrots, add a little cheese to broccoli, etc).
