I think that sounds about right..I started out at 164.4 at your same height and tried 1200 with exercising 5 days per week...NOT GOOD..I was starving, cranky and tired. See how that goes for you and you will find that throughout this journey there will be alot of tweeking and adjusting. My biggest piece of advice I can give to you regarding exercise calories is to be VERY conservative with what you think is your calorie burn...I see people ALL THE TIME putting up these huge numbers and end up eating them all back..then they wonder why they are not losing...duh..lol
  • I am currently 188lbs and is 5'3.
MFP suggested I do 1,200cal per day but since I 'vowed' to exercise 4x a week, it increased to 1,220cal.
Since I have been exercising 4-7x a week, the caloric allowance ranges from 1,300-1,500cal~
I am actually doing well with my allowance, IDK maybe because I had been in extreme fad diets before I started healthy diets seriously.

Hi. I'm 5'2.5" looking to hit ONEderland soon and have about 45-50 more lbs to hit my first goal. I started at 255, now hovering between 207-210 on any given day. Short girls unite! Add me if you'd like.

HI there! I'm about 5'1 and my over all goal when I started here was to lose 65 lbs so I don't really fit in your 100+ lbs to lose category. (depending on how I look and feel when I reach that goal will determine if I make my overall goal a lower number since I would be at the higher end of my BMI at current goal.) as of right now I try to eat between 1200-1500 cal per day (I'd be lying if I said I didn't slip up once in a while) and try to burn around 250-300 off per day. I'm not going to say the weight is coming off fast, but its working so far for me at a decently steady pace. (1-2 lbs a week on average, the holidays messed me up a little) I've been on here for about 9 weeks and I've lost 15 lbs so far so I'm not complaining. you can feel free to add me if you would like, I have my food diary open to friends and its always good to have buddies to help you stay motivated along the way.

Hi all, I'm not new but want to chime in here. First, depending on your settings MFP gives everyone 1200 calories. Hardly anyone is actually sedentary, most people are lightly active, especially those working out. Also, MFP is designed so you should eat your exercise calories back.

Now with that being said. Be sure you are weighing and measuring all of your food. Get a food scale for solids, a tablespoon of peanut butter does not equal 16 grams. Measuring cups and spoons are good for liquids and recipes but not when measuring by weight. MFP, gym machines and many other databases are not accurate for calorie burns. To be more accurate try a Fitbit or heart rate monitor.

Many people will add a buffer by eating around 100-200 calories under their goal and only eating back 1/2 to 3/4 of their exercise calories. Remember to that as you lose weight you will need to cut calories so if you start at 1200 you have no place to go. I know that being short means you start out lower than someone six feet tall but you'd be surprised what you can eat and still lose. I say this as a cautionary tale. I started with low calories and was inadvertently not fueling my body right and it was ugly.

I'm happy for you OP for starting at 1500. Good luck to you!
