Hey Women, How do you measure for a bra, any comments

    I just purchased a new sports bra from bare necessities.com. They have 'how to' instructions and a reference chart for size. I was shocked at how different the size I wear versus the recommended size. I just received it yesterday and the chart was spot on. I hope this helps!

    if you're bigger, put on a bra that will keep the girls in position and that doesnt' squish you and give you quadraboob.


    1. measure around your ribcage right at the bottom of your breasts.
    2. measure around your boobs at the widest point.
    3. bra size is determined by the band size from #1 and the difference between #2 and #1. 1" diff is a, 2" is b 3" is c , 4"=d, from there it gets wonky based on brands (ie in some brands 6" is ddd in others it's an f)

    so if your band size is 36 and your boob measurement is 40 then your bra size would probably be 36D.

    from there it's a matter of trying on different bras and styles. the number you get is just a starting point because you will find that depending on the style and brand there might be differences in sizing

    I measure my underbust and use that as band size. No stupid American adding and subtracting. The band size should be the actual size you are around! For cup size, trial & error.

    Or get fitted. But not at Victoria's Secret. They told me I wear a 34D when I actually wear a 28FF. Try a department store like Nordstrom or a bra shop.

    I guessed for a few years and ordered online until we got a REAL bra store in town (the owner wears like a 32GG) that was geared towards well-endowed women. I wear a 36HH (UK sizing, 36K or so in US sizing) now, so I am very particular about my bras. My ex-MIL swears that I don't need anything bigger than a D cup but I prefer to have two boobs instead of 6 or 8. :laugh: If you have large breasts, check out Belle Lingerie, HerRoom, and any of the other online stores that carry larger cup sizes. My personal experience tells me that bras made in the UK are sooooooo much better than the ones made here in the USA.

    Go get professionally fitted at a place that has a VERY LARGE selection of sizes. If you happen to wear a size that a store doesn't carry, a lot of places will try to make you fit into a size they carry, even if it's not your real size. This is particularly important if you have a small underbust measurement, a large underbust measurement, and/or large breasts.

    there's some outdated stuff on that chart.

    unless you're in an in between size there's no reason to increase in your band size. this is especially true for those of us with smaller ribcages and larger boobs. the suggestion to do this was based on the idea that many bra manufacturers didnt make band sizes below a certain size plus the assumption that women with smaller ribcages would also have smaller breasts, so there wouldnt be too much of an issue with lack of support. but now there are lots of offerings of bras in the 28,30,32 range.

    anything higher than a b cup volume really can't have be wearing a band size 2-4 inches too big without their girls looking a hot droopy mess


    PS i worked at summer at one of THE best lingerie fitting stores in NYC and learned from one of the best :smile:

    I would get fitted professionally. I always used to think I was 42C or 42D, one day I decided to go to Victorias Secret just to see what they would measure me as, and I was 38DDD! I was like this lady is crazy, and she had me try on that bra size, and to my amazement it fit perfectly! :)

    I measured myself as 44G, but then when I wore some bras I got in that size they did not fit right. The wires came too high on the sides and in the center on most of the bras. Otherwise they fit fine. They weren't really big in the boob area. Only one of the bras fit okay. The next size down 44DDD seems to fit a bit small. The center piece between the cups stands off my chest. I have heard that bras are not supposed to be like that. Does anyone know what the problem is?

    It could be that the size is right, but the style isn't. Not every style of bra will work for you. Try a different brand or a different style in the same brand. That might help.

    This doesn't work for me. My band under my boobs is 38 and my bust measures 46. I'm not an H. Usually I fit between a D/DD. Maybe I'm just weird. ::shrug::

    Yes, this! That reddit page saved me from a lifetime of poorly fitted bras and the ladies there are so helpful.

    Can't say enough how much I love ABraThatFits. I had been wearing very ill fitting 32D's and found out I was actually a 28H. What a difference a proper fitting bra makes. I don't hate bras anymore!
