Question.. Does it matter which whey protein powder you use? I mean if I'm using the GNC brand and I'm happy, but there's not a GNC around, is the Muscletech from Wal Mart just as good? There's no big difference from one brand to the other is it?

There are a lot of differences, it just depends on how much those differences matter to you. First is taste-- some are just more palatable than others and to make it more complicated, different people like different ones. Second is protein composition-- the highest quality, easiest-absorbed protein is generally acknowledged to be whey protein isolate. Other proteins (whey protein concentrate, caseinates, hemp, pea, egg white, etc.) are fine to eat, but not as well absorbed by the body. Third is the matter of what else is in the powder with the protein-- how much fat, what kind of sweetener, additional vitamins or amino acids or stimulants. You may or may not want certain things, or you may not care so much.

So, read the labels. I'm not familiar with Muscletech. I'm sure it would be fine for a few days if you run out of your preferred kind, but you might want to shop around a little. I generally use whey protein isolates that are as low carb and fat free as I can find; most are sweetened with stevia or splenda. Isopure is one popular brand but I don't like the way it tastes. Syntrax Nectar is pretty tasty depending on the flavor. Now Foods makes a fairly affordable unflavored (bright orange container) that's okay, Dymatize is another usually-okay brand, and Costco sells one, Cytosport I think it is, that's good for the price. I also like It's About Time and 4Ever Fit, and use those often. BSN Lean Dessert is the best tasting one I've tried, but it has more calories and slightly less protein per scoop than the other brands, so it's kind of a "treat." I order most of mine online, though; cheaper and easier given my schedule.

Though the more expensive brands can give you a slightly little more benefit here and there and ensure that the quality of source is also high grade, if you're on a budget or you just don't like wasting money, get a cheap one, you get still do great things with the cheap ones, especially if your diet is in check along with gym progress
