Weight gain yet eating below bmr??

Hi everyone, I'm quite upset with my body right now because even though I'm consuming less than my bmr (1,155), I've gained 2 pounds in the past week. What is this about? I'm puzzled, so if anyone knows what's going on, let me know. Also, everyday I walk 3 miles a day, lift 3lb weights for 15 minutes, and preform squats for 15 minutes as well.

    When did you start logging food and looking to eat at a deficit. What did your weight do prior to last week?

    Did you start exercising recently?

    How much water are you drinking? Not to be crude, but have you pooped recently? If you were dehydrated and evacuated when you weighed yourself last time, and this time you're hydrated and not evacuated then that would make up several pounds of difference right there.

  • Well, I don't know why I've gained weight. And my thighs have gotten chunkier, which isn't good. I'm going to the bathroom normally, drinking enough water, etc. Still baffled by this weight gain, it worries me....

    You probably should be addressing Sara's questions if you aren't already. Most likely culprit is water weight. Or you're underestimating your calories.

    Also judging by your profile you are female so it could TOM weight gain which is normal.

    One week is an anomaly. Your body isn't entirely predictable. Nobody's body is.

    Why are you eating below BMR? You shouldn't be. It isn't good for you.

    Even tho you use the bathroom, doesn't mean you couldn't be clogged. I started adding a fiber supplement to my diet and I was so SHOCKED with all the stuff I must have had backed up. I was holding at a plateau for two weeks and after figuring out that I had stuff backed up and fixed it, I lost 5lbs and keep going down now. :) also like someone said sodium is a BIG thing to hold water weight.

    That is because it isn't possible to do that. People usually can't put on more than a couple of pounds of muscle in a month let alone in a week....not to mention that she is eating at a significant deficit which means she can't gain muscle.

    You're completely right, I gain muscle while eating at a deficit. But she said she's been using 3 lb weights for 15 minutes.. And I don't think that's gonna cause gains

    Is your ability to log food correctly match your ability to read and answer questions from posts trying to help?

    If they match, you are eating more than you think.

    The real question is, WHY are you eating below your BMR? Most likely, it's just normal weight fluxuation.

    How tall are you and what do you currently weigh? People can be a lot more constructive in their help if they really know your circumstances. It's also helpful if you log your calories for a week or more and then open your diary. Knowing what you've been trying can help others make helpful suggestions.

    I almost all circumstances, eating less than a thousand calories per day will make your metabolism slow to a crawl. With your height and weight, we could help you find a healthy number of calories. 800-900 is quite likely very unhealthy for you. Until you share more information, all we can really say is "please eat more" ... I'm 5'2" and I eat 1300 to 1800 calories per day depending on my workout, I can't fathom a way in which you can be getting sufficient proteins and fats (and vitamins for that matter) for your body to be healthy.

    Also, I see you only want to lose three pounds? The last few are the hardest to lose ... and depending what your weight is, if your body thinks you need them, there's always the chance that it knows better than you what a healthy weight for you is.

    It seems like you've been eating way to little, before starting logging your meals. Your metabolism "feels threatened", as your body was not getting enough nutrition, and your body might be storing every calorie as fat.

    Until your metabolism balances out, with the increased calories, you might be adding pounds, before losing them.

    I would strongly encourage you to eat more, in order to lose weight, considering that you also work out.
