Walking

Is walking for 30 minutes at a "walk the dog pace" or 3.0 speed usually mean I am burning around 127 kcal? Does this sound right to anyone? After each walk and entering it into MFP and fitbit one I total around 100 kcal (more or less) burned and I feel I am being cheated for all the sweat and effort I put into my workout. It just does not seem right. Can someone explain this to me how walking only burns 100 or so kcal? Thanks.

Walking at a relatively slow speed like that you wont be causing your heart rate to soar, meaning your muscles aren't crying out for more blood and oxygen, which in turn means they're not being worked that hard so you wont be burning loads of calories.

Walking does not burn a lot of calories. 200-300 calories/hour sounds about right for a normal walking speed.

This. Plus without knowing your weight we really can't say. But it's still walking, so I wouldn't seek out any extraordinary burn figures

A potential inaccuracy of around 25 calories for a whole day is hardly going to cause any harm. The problem with MFP is that it does not take into account other variables such as validation. For example, walking for 30 minutes up a hill is not the same as walking 30 minutes on a normal road.

You may walk down the street subconsciously climbing a bit of elevation without realising.

Walking doesn't burn a lot of calories. But remember, you're doing laps around the people sitting on the couch.

You can manually enter in the amount of calories you are burning and save it so that you don't have to manually enter it every time. Walking is a fabulous way of losing weight. It may not burn too many calories, but it revs up your metabolism for the day. I lost quite a bit of weight walking 1 mile a day. Then I increased it to 2 miles. Keep up the great work!

Exactly! Walking is how I lost my "baby weight" several years ago and I had plenty to lose... over 50 lbs!
