My HRM keeps telling me a need a rest week, and that I have incomplete training weeks despite going over my targets. What is a rest week? Polars web site was not much help.

I'm not sure what does it mean in Polar exactly, but if you finished some training plan which you had set up on your watch it's probably telling you to have little rest.
With marathon preparation for example you have 24 weeks of hard work finished with the race. After that you need at least one week recovery before you start something new. And it's proven that sometimes after this easy week if you participate for example in 10km race you have more chances to have new personal best than if you would continue with training.
Of course recovery week doesn't mean sitting on the couch, you can reduce your normal activity, replace running with swimming, or bike. More recovery workouts and less interval training.0 -
Well, I know there were some plans programed when I first purchased the monitor. I guess I need to figure out how to clear it. I dont use it to perform a plan per say, I just want to monitor my HR and calorie burn.0
