Need to lose before returning to work

I have been on maternity leave for the last 7 months and am almost due back. Went into my work place today to discuss going back and my manager handed me a new shirt as the uniform has changed. Got home and tried it on and although its the same size as my last one, it's seriously too tight! To the point the bottom gapes open. I was big before I had my baby and am far too embarrassed to ask for a bigger size. I have about 3 weeks until I need to fit in it and am wondering if this is actually possible? Or am I being unrealistic?

    You are only setting yourself up for disappointment to expect to drop (multiple?) sizes over a 3-week period. It isn't realistic, and you may be able to do it, but weight loss that fast is usually not sustainable and most people will gain it all back, and then some.

    I think you should totally work towards a weight loss goal, but I also think you should be prepared to have something to wear to work incase you don't lose enough weight. My suggestion is to ask for a size up with the uniform, and make some longterm weight loss goals, and work towards them. You're going to feel so good when you lose enough weight to go to the next size down. And there is no shame in gaining weight while pregnant. It is natural for that weight to take some time to lose as well!

    I agree! You just had a baby..your manager should totally understand. Just work hard to reach your goals and you will get there..don't rush it.

    It's only half a size as it does up etc but it gapes open at the bottom. My issue is that I'm not sure they do a bigger size - hence my embarrassment at asking for bigger. Plus my size is not to do with baby, I'm as big as I was before having her, but it is only now that I am ashamed of my size and how I have let myself go.

    Instead of worrying about the what-ifs, get started and see what happens! Use it as motivation to really get serious! You could lose up to 6 pounds in the next 3 weeks in a nice gradual healthy way and that may be just enough for that shirt to fit better. If by a few days before you go in the shirt still doesn't fit, suck it up, call your boss and say you need a bigger size. Every woman gains weight with pregnancy, I'm sure they won't be surprised.

    Even when I was back to prepregnancy weight, my clothes fit me differently. Honestly, even when I was 30 pounds BELOW my prepregnancy weight, I couldn't wear my old blazers any more. Your body changes. Wearing poorly fitting clothes is just a way of shaming yourself, and shame isn't a reliable, consistent motivator. Get clothes that fit, feel good about and respect your body, and use that self-respect to motivate changes for the long run.
