How do you manage when you're on your period? I always crave chocolate, bit I need to find an alternative.
Any ideas?
Thank you

i eat chocolate and still lose weight....
i'm pretty sure you can too!0 -
I promise myself a single square of dark chocolate as the last thing I eat for the day - only if I stay under my calories though!
That way I know its coming, and I have something to look forward to!
Also, most chocolate cravings can be held at bay by either fruit or something coconut flavoured0 -

Ditto. I eat the chocolate. Lol0 -
I love really dark chocolate. If you look at my diary, you will see I eat 1-2 squares of Ghiardelli almost every night. The flavor is intense so I don't feel like I need more than a couple squares.0

I'm dealing with that NOW as you posted it I swear you're reading my mind. I just keep thinking "The body I want or the craving I want..." what's the long term? I just had 2 clementines and the sweetness is kinda helping. I'm REALLY wanting Chocolate covered peanut M&M's.
If by after work the craving doesn't go away, I'm probably going to have dark chocolate or a chocolate protein shake.0 -

I saw the topic and immediately said out loud "YEAAAAAAH"
Eat the chocolate, choose dark chocolate since it has antioxidants and it is said to be healthier (if that makes you feel better), buy the small bite size ones and keep in a place where you would have to lil stand up and get rather than keeping them close where you can binge on it...0 -
While I ALSO eat chocolate and try for moderation, another idea is coffee! Often (and especially around period time) your body wants magnesium which is prevalent in cocoa, but also in coffee! I also like light hot cocoa...0

I eat the chocolate. In small amounts if I'm near my calorie limit (though, really, I don't stress if I go over every once in a while -- I just try to stay under maintenance). Someone upthread mentioned Ghirardelli squares, and those are great. There's a dark chocolate one with sea salt and almonds, and two of those are just over 100 calories. They're divine and very satisfying without taking up a lot of calories.0

I wasn't sure where this was going. There are quite a lot of things to manage when you have your period. Chocolate is not one of them as long as it fits into your calorie goal.0

If you really don't want to eat the chocolate for the sake of calories, look for a less calorie dense chocolate. If you are craving peanut M&Ms, try the pretzel M&Ms instead. If you're craving a cupcake, try a 90 calorie Fiber One brownie, etc.0

Fit it into your day.
And go for dark chocolate. Milk chocolate is just sugar and I think it tends to trigger the desire to eat more. I go for a good quality dark chocolate that is at least 70% cocoa and a few squares helps. Since I started logging I eat more food and the numbers are more consistent each day- this has actually made a huge difference on cravings relating to the cycle. Food is fuel, eat enough.
1 Tbsp of Nutella in plain greek yogurt also hits the spot sometimes.0 -

OP based on this thread and the french fry one I wonder whether you're trying to be too restrictive with your diet.

There is no reason why you shouldn't be able to have a small amount of chocolate if you're craving it.0 -
Tootsie Rolls aren't to bad(small ones)
Weight Watchers chocolate ice cream
Dark chocolate is my favorite!!0 -
Don't deprive yourself... eat dark chocolate in moderation.0

I have the same problem!! You could try a Quest Bar. They are healthy and they have some really yummy chocolate options. I have tried Chocolate chip cookie dough (my favorite), Brownie, and Chocolate Peanut butter. All delicious!0

I include a tbsp of dark chocolate chips with a handful of almonds in my regular eating habits. Or even better--mix the dark chocolate chips with peanut butter and then dip apple slices in them! Usually in the afternoons when I feel my energy waning. Helps to curb the late evening cravings.0

I love chocolate but I can not eat it because I have difficulty controlling my portions. I have taken a large 90% dark chocolate bar and ate the entire thing and no I did not love it, but it was too hard to stop. BUT, I did find a couple ways of soothing my need for chocolate without going crazy.
1. Chocolate protein shake
2. Chocolate protein bars (yes they are a candy bar packed with protein, however its better than eating a regular candy bar)
and this is my new favorite.
3. Take frozen banana's (cut in chunks) put in a blender (magic bullet is what I use) and add a couple of tablespoons of dark chocolate cocoa powder,mix... its like dark chocolate ice cream....soooooo yummy and about 120 calories, no sugar added, just from the natural fruit.
Good luck!!! Enjoy.0 -
I eat chocolate !! I still exercise and log everything but I can't deprive myself especially during my TOM0

Chocolate, Ice cream, cookies... whatever. I eat it all, as long as I fit it into my calorie goal.0

Here!! When it's that time of the month, I just have what I want, in moderation, of course. If I go over my goal for a day or two, no sweat.0 -

Years ago when I was in Weight Watchers, I heard the best advice about cravings during weight loss...
If you're craving something specific, instead of trying to find alternatives (and 9 times out of 10 wasting calories on things you didn't really want to eat), go ahead and have that thing you're craving, just have a little bit.
Sometimes that can be easier said than done but it is possible. For instance, when I want ice cream in the summer, instead of going out and buying a pint of Ben & Jerry's (because I'll sit and eat the whole thing, I have no control when it comes to ice cream), I go thru the McD's drive through and get one of their vanilla soft serve cones. It's cold and sweet and only 170 calories vs the 100s of calories in that pint.
What about something else that's chocolatey but not so high in calories like those FiberOne or Special K bars?0 -
The Ghiradelli Chocolates with chili peppers are also yummy!0
-
Oh man, this is my weak spot. Sometimes a spoonful of Nutella does the trick for me.0
-
This is how I get rid of those craving. Its gross, but I bought unsweetened chocolate so when I have a craving I go take a bite and the bitterness instantly turns off my craving.0
