The extra calories which is earned after doing exercise, well do you have to eat them back in order to lose or not?

If you're using the MFP method then yes, they expect you to eat them back. And as long as you're accurate with your numbers you still should lose weight.0

Yes about 75% of them as MFP database is know to be high.
MFP is already setup with a deficet in your calories and the exercise calories you area should be eaten esp if you are netting under 1200 for a woman and 1800 for a man.0 -

What's there to not get? It sounds like you answered your own question. The only people that wouldn't need eat their exercise calories back are those doing the TDEE-20% method, assuming they've calculated their TDEE to include their workouts.0 -

Exactly my point. And yet over and over and over again we get these questions of "Won't I gain weight if I eat them?" and people advising posters to only eat them if you're trying to maintain or gain (not this thread in particular but site wide in general). I honestly would like to know, from an outsiders perspective, why people think the program is so poorly designed as to add them in if you're not actually supposed to eat them.0 -

I didnt understand before either. I am doing the TDEE-20% method and I have been for months. I WAS eating them back (didnt know/was hangry) and i did not gain any weight. i also did not LOSE much either. I just started recently not eating them back (unless i am absolutely starving) and we'll see how that goes?0

Yeah, this is different, though.
TDEE method with exercise in calculation = do not eat exercise calories. (In fact, don't even add them on here.)
MFP method = Eat about 75% of exercise calories earned.0 -

Hi orangebluesun. I'm sorry that you felt I was hijacking your discussion or that I implied anywhere in my post that I had all the answers. I really was not trying to be snarky. As indicated, this is a commonly asked question and I'd really like to know what it is about the set up that seems to put some users off. Is it the misinformation on the boards? A holdover from other sites and formulas that are set up differently? Does something on the site throw people off? I'd like to know because I'm a. curious about these things and b. wonder if there's something that can be said or done differently to help people with the site.
I obviously don't know everything. It's why I lurk these forums. I answer the questions that I can answer and ask questions where I can. I hope that you can find the answers that you need on these forums.

I think you're supposed to.. I've never been good about doing it though. I lost 96 lbs in a year and only ate back my calories occasionally and some days went over my calorie limit even after exercise..0

She was answering your question. She just wanted to know why people are confused by exercise calories. It happens very often and is something the developers of the site should know.

You won't last long if you continue being so defensive.
To answer your question-eat a portion back. If you lose weight faster than your weight loss goal per week eat a few more back. If you gain or don't lose according to you weight loss goals, then eat less exercise calories back.

So I am one of those crazy people that didn't know this. I think the thought gets in your head that you're supposed to burn more than you take in, so if you still have 500 calories left over for the day, that's a good thing. I've actually felt rather guilty the couple times I did eat back some of those calories burned.
So based on the MFP way, if say I'm hungry but I really don't have any "extra" calories for a snack, I could go work out and then eat my snack if I'm still hungry. (I basically just did this. I hopped on my stationary bike and peddled for 25 minutes and now I'm going to eat some almonds.)0 -

Depends on what you set up your goals as...
They recommend you put sedentary or lightly active and THEN add in your workouts. I have my goals set as lightly active ( because I have an active job ) and then I add in my exercises.
You don't necessarily have to do it that way. You can set your profile as moderately active or very active, and then not add in the workouts. But only do that if you know for sure.
But yeah they do expect you to eat it all back. If you do not want to eat it all back, set your activity level higher ( if you exercise on a regular basis )0 -
