Does eating low fat make you hungry?

I've "dieting" for about 6 months now and have not really had an issue with hunger, other than when TOM comes for a couple of days. The last week, however, I have been hungry all the time. It's caused me to overeat several times. I'm still getting a deficit most days, but have also had a day or two at maintenance.
The only thing that has changed is that my sister is staying with us. Her boyfriend has high cholesterol, so they are insisting on eating low fat meals. All of the sudden it is ground turkey and tofu all the time.
I've noticed before that I have less hunger if I eat more fat. I think it might have something to do with PCOS. I know a lot of PCOS women eat do better with higher fat meals. So I guess it could be that.
Does anyone else feel more hunger when they eat lower fat meals?
I think it kind of offends my sister that I don't want to eat the meals she is cooking, but I can't deal with this hunger. It drives me crazy. Also, quite frankly, I can't stand the low fat stuff. I was doing fine before.

I do not have PCOS but I absolutely feel much fuller and satiated with high fat/protein than low. I would say that all the low fat things could definitely be contributing to your hunger
Maybe explain what you've said here as to why you need to eat something different. I know it would be tough to explain but it's not like you think her cooking sucks, you just need different food.

Yes. Fat is very filling.0

I'd say it's part of why the whole "low fat" diet foods fads of the 80s and 90s (and beyond) were such a bad idea.0 -
Yup, fat and protein are both very filling0

Hungry is a mild way of expressing it. Low fat makes me voraciously hungry.
High fat (70%) and moderate protein (20%) way of eating provides satiety for me.0 -
When I don't get enough fat, I feel like I am starving. More fat, more protein, and less carb is the best for me. Otherwise, I start to crave something. When I don't have enough fat, I occasionally will eat a half-pound block of cheese. 'd rather get more fat in my meals, not have cravings, and not binge on cheese.0

I agree with everyone else. I tend to naturally eat low fat and have to be aware to make sure I keep my fat intake up. Not only do low fat days make me hungry, but they kill my mood :frown: . Fat makes me happy. It's brain food after all!0

You've lost 66 pounds in 7 months. Clearly, what you are doing works for you. Just let your sister know that you respect the choices she and her boyfriend make for their health, and you would like it is she respects your choices as well.0

If my meals don't have enough fat, they don't "last" very long....I'll be hungry not long after.
Do your guests know that dietary fat doesn't effect cholesterol?0 -

I mentioned this to her boyfriend but he just shrugged it off.0 -
Tell the truth, the sister's boyfriend is a bit of a moron too, right? Sounds like it.
Your assessment of what has happened is absolutely right on and you have discovered what many of us have found; fat and protein = satiety. Also, there is some newer research on what causes higher bad cholesterol and it isn't fat.0
