Constant Hunger?

Today, I've eaten really healthy, Musli for breakfast, chicken caesar salad for lunch, a granola bar for one snack and chicken salad on crackers for the other. I've drank 4 glasses of water and almost 16 oz. of gatorade low calorie. I know I'm not actually hungry, but I keep wanting to eat. Nothing in particular, it's not like cravings for something that I'm not satisfying, but I can't seem to get my mind off of food. Any suggestions?

hmm... chew some gum, drink even more water, go workout, go play an online game and waste a few hours :) call a friend, clean your house or car...i dunno just think of something really distracting?
  • So if it isn't hunger it might be habit! I had that problem. I used to eat so often I realized starting this plan I was bored after starting and needed to fill up the time I used to use eating. NOW I will pick up my kettlebell and workout some easy things or sit on the balance ball while watching tv. It really helps me to keep my mind off food and retrain myself.
Hope you figure it out. Also be sure to drink half your body weight in ozs of water... and get enough protein.
    Happy new life.

If you cut out the mayo that goes with chicken salad sandwiches & cut out (or @ least cut it down) the gatorade because of all the sugar & other chemicals & replaced the mayo with hummus or "nayonaise" (not mayonase but the same texture & is found @ any health food store) your body will thank you for it! You won't be as hungry because your metabolism and the hormones in your body will be more stable. Try it & see :)

Yes distraction is great if you can. When I just cant seem to distract myself I either suck on a sucker. Not many calories and keeps something in your mouth for awhile. also sometimes I eat some popcorn same reason you can munch on alot of it without alot of calories. chewing gum also works sometimes. I hope this helps
  • I think it's because I'm staying at the dorm this weekend, when I usually go home, so I'm alone all day (working on term papers). But the combination of being bored and alone and having to do stuff I don't want to do probly adds to the "hmm...I'll just take a snack break" thinking. A game might be just what I need. Thanks for the replies.

I'm somewhat at the mercy of on campus food services. I love hummus, but it's not available at the campus stores. I chose the gatorade because I thought my body might be asking for flavor. I'm working towards healthier eating, not just less calories but more natural, but it's hard on a student budget with campus services narrowing options. When I go home, I usually make a couple of homemade meals I can freeze and reheat, but I'm currently out.

i'm in the same situation you are girlie!!! i have all this wonderful food in my dorm, and i spend a lot of time in here doing stressful homework, and i always want to take a break and eat!!! Granted the food in my room is all healthy (i have a larger fridge for everything), i have a hard time controlling my portions. i distract myself from eating by drinking cups of tea and chewing gum. i'm working on getting rid of the gum habit right now. its all about practicing the discipline. good luck!

I have had days like that. the best thing you can do is make yourself as busy as possible and try not to give in. But also make sure that you are eating the recommended amount of food b/c even though you may not feel hungry, your body could still be hungry. ~fingers crossed~ here's to no more day like that for all of us!

I would recommend making your daily menu a little more interesting or varied. I find that I HAVE to eat varied foods throughout the day and then my mind isn't even on the food when I'm not eating.

I would cut out the gatorade--the low-cal version has artificial sweetener which is not good for you, and probably makes you hungrier....and Gatorade floods your cells with electrolytes which then inhibits the absorption of water! Stick with water!
