Hi! I'm starting the fast on Friday -- had my first group meeting last week. I'm a little scared, but also very excited to start this great program. I think the level of emotional and medical support are going to be a very good match for my needs. I've tried everything else for sure! In my own quest to look for support I have found some wonderful blogs, and even started my own. We're in this together!

    Cheers to you!

Programs that employ meal replacement shakes don't teach you how to eat properly on the way down. All you need is a calorie deficit to lose weight, and replacing food with liquid calories that will not fill you up is not the best strategy, just something to think about.
  • Wow AJ_G, way to be a downer.

Not doing optifast but posting to let you know that you are probably going to get a lot of negative and snarky comments, though many of the posters are trying to be helpful. Either read their comments and consider/research what they suggest, or brush it off.

Either way, welcome to MFP and good luck!

    Welcome
  • Hi, you're probably going to get a lot of negative comments about how meal replacements don't teach you how to eat properly. If you are doing it under medical supervision and finding support through a program, it'll be a great decision. I've been on Optifast now for 8 days. The first few days are horrible, but it does get better. Good luck!
  • Thank you

    Thanks for the advice.
  • My first class is on the 13th, so I guess I am starting on the actual diet on the 20th.
  • Hi - I'm on Day 6 of Optifast and the first few days are difficult but it does get better. I'm in New Zealand and our program is a little different. The products are available from the pharmacy but there are no weekly support meetings. I've joined Weight Watchers for the extra support and also to have a plan for afterwards.

Hi Erin! I am on day two of shakes and I'm feeling fine. There are some wonderful Optifast blogs out there offering support and information. I started a blog and link to some, and you can find others from there! Stay positive and try and enjoy the journey. The program has been a life saving and life changing choice for many. Cheers to you for getting started!
