Sweet Potatoes

There is this restaurant chain, Cosi which is near my office. They have a lot of healthy sandwich and salad choices and seasonal specials. One new seasonal offering is their "Smart Fit Salad" it has Kale, romaine, avocado, corn black beans, roasted sweet potato and while balsamic vinaigrette. It sounded amazing and for the most part it was very good and satisfying. HOWEVER, to my dismay, I discovered I hate roasted sweet potatoes, or at least theirs. I had to pick them out of the salad since could not tolerate the taste. Crazy because I love sweet potato pie, and sweet potatoes in tempura, but I guess they are more tolerable when butter, sugar and spices are added or they are battered and fried. Has anyone else been surprised by a food in its "naked" form?

I have sort of an opposite taste experience. My mom was from the south and learned that oh, so yummy way of cooking vegetables to death! One of these vegetables was asparagus. I absolutely HATED that stringy, tough, disgusting vegetable in it's overcooked state. Fast forward 20 years where I bravely decided to give it another try. Now, I snap off the bottom woody part, place it on a jelly roll plan, lightly toss with EVOO, salt & pepper and roast until tender crisp. MMMmmmmmmm.......GOOD! Now I can't get enough of it!

Sorry about your sweet potatoes! LOL Maybe you can save them and use them in a smoothie adding all the yummy pie spices, yogurt and almond milk?

I love roasted sweet potatoes. I sprinkle cinnamon and salt on mine though. Maybe they just don't make them right :)
I'm also a huge fan of raw sweet potatoes. I slice them up for between class snacks.

As much as I love roasted red peppers, I can't handle raw ones. I dipped one in hummus thinking it would be no big deal and nearly gagged.
