Olive Spread VS Light Butter

Hi all,

I see a lot of people using Olive spread instead of butter. I looked into the nutrition information and Light Olive spread has more fat and calories than Light butter. So I wonder what is the interest in the swap.

Please tell me what you think.

Perhaps they think saturated fat is bad and would prefer olive oil (presuming the spread you're talking about is EVOO?)

Id usually use nothing, but if I had to use something, I'd use butter. Actual butter...not pretend butter.
  • Butter without added salt for me...its the real thing, no added chemicals or other nasties to make it "look and taste" like butter :-)

Real butter or coconut oil here.

We use real butter, but buy the whipped kind. It's still real butter but they whip it before they package it, so it's full of air and you use half as much. Yes, it's probably not that great to be paying for air, but my hubs loves butter and it's a way to get him to use less. the body needs some saturated fats and there are healthy and unhealthy versions. For cooking I use olive oil or coconut oil as they are healthier saturated fats. It's fine to eat fats as long as there's a healthy balance in your intake.

I use olive oil spread (Nuttelex) because it tastes good! Ordinary margarine is gross and the only dairy I consume is in cheese form because anything else makes me feel sick. So now butter tastes really strange to me. But having said that, I don't eat very much Nuttelex anyway, so no biggie.
