I just learned we can add foods to the database? Is that vetted for accuracy as in calories burned etc, before its available to all of us?

Thank you...

User contributed exercises are just like the foods. There isn't a check and balance system except each other. So, if I submit an exercise based on my HRM - I should probably note my age, height, weight, etc. before I submit it - but the reality is that all of the exercises in the data base are assumptions/averages. I can walk 2.5 miles per hour and not really put a lot of effort into it -but someone else my same age, height, weight can do the same walk and really be swinging their arms, and wearing weights on their ankles, focusing on tightening muscles while they move, etc. and actually burn more calories than I would. So, if you think the data may be incorrect for you - maybe try adjusting the calorie burn to higher or lower - which ever works best.

I personally think the exercise calories on this site are way high. They always double and sometimes triple what my monitor says so I just calculate them and them half them which I think is more likely. When I work out I really put a all out effort into it and am usually wringing wet and I still never come close to what the site says I have burned.

Sorry Hun, there is not a "one size fits most" when it comes to exercise. It is strongly reccomended to get a heart rate monitor or other such device to be accurate for your individual needs. A 250 lb person can be doing the exact same exercise next to a 150 lb person, at the same rate and intensity and have a huge difference in calories burned. It all depends on your size and fitness level.
  • I don't know about all of them but I know when I go to the gym and work out on the elliptical and stationery bike (which calculate calories burned for me) the number is pretty close to whats here on the site.

For what it's worht, those numbers are all SIGNIFICANTLY higher than what my HRM says. My elliptical will say close to 100 calories more than my HRM.
