Too convenient. I'm planning to start tomorrow as well, so I'll be right there with you. I just watched the fit test this morning so I have an idea of how to do the moves. Definitely going to be crazy, and I'm still sceptical that it will make as dramatic of an improvement as in the commercials, but the idea is to work out and get more physically fit and I'm sure this will help with that.
  • Okay - THis will keep me on track! I have the tapes and have not used them and now I have a reason to start!! I am ready

I'm in. I've had it for a couple weeks but I've been so busy that exercise fell off horribly. I'll be taking the fit test this afternoon. Gotta admit... I'm more than a little scared. :)

We have a group of people who workout at lunch here in my office. Since the running season is pretty much over here in Maine, we are starting Insanity today. It will take us longer than the 60 days to complete, as we will be doing this 4-5 days during the week. But we are going to follow the calendar and not skip any workouts. Might just take us 90 days to finish instead. I am hoping for great results as a group!

So I wanted to die this morning...only felt a little bad about stopping during the video to catch a breather when I saw the professional drop back or off camera, that Shaun T sure has the endurance of a fricking ox!

I got to about 17 minutes (The beginning of the basketball drills) left and said, "To hell with this." I know why they call it insanity now, but I am not giving up on the program. Trying to keep pace with the video is too fast, so tomorrow I am going to dial it back and just work on getting through each interval rather than bumping up the intensity so much.

Just have to remember that those on video have more athletic prowess than the every-day Joe or Jane, so comparison to them just isn't fair. Eventually it might be fun to compete with them, but for now, not so much.

That is the problem/hard part/challenge of Insanity. If you are driven and competative, you want to keep up and just end up getting burned out. You have to take the breaks, catch your breath and then join back in. Try hard not to turn off the dvd and just push through. Easier said than done. But it does get better. Wait until you do your second fit test and see the improvements, it is sooooo motivating.

Good luck everyone!!! I will post my fit test results this afternoon.

No quitting half way through the routine today. Just kept myself going at a steady pace and tried to keep extra rests to a minimum. Much better than yesterday. Hope you all have fun with today's workout!

Today was a good workout, but I found my HRM to be a little bit of a hindrance to push as hard as I probably could have. I'm wondering if I should change my "In the Zone" settings to allow me to push a little more to my max. It starts beeping crazy at me when I get above 168. Thoughts?
  • Ok, I think I am going to try this as I am bored of the machines at the rec center on my university campus! I've been working out pretty hard this week so I am going to do some pretty easy workouts today and tomorrow to get ready. This seems like a good alternative to running outside as soon it's going to be quite icy and snowy out there!!

I have a question, can you do the videos in like a 8'x5' space, or do i need a bigger area? I always seem to have that problem when im partway thru an exercise video and then I am crunched for space; it's super annoying!

The coolest part of this is that I could do it almost anywhere, maybe my family will want to join in during Christmas time... hahaha I think my little brothers are the only ones who would ;-)

Been quiet on this thread the last day or two so I'll chime in so that people don't think it's dead. I just finished the last workout for this week and am pleased to say I made it through week 1. That first day was nuts, and the run through the plyometric cardio went much better today. I was still pushing, but wasn't competing with the video so much. Looking forward to the break tomorrow and then picking it back up on Monday.

As to Elle, I say welcome to ya! I chose this program exactly because it was getting colder outside and because of how hard it is to drag my butt out of bed in the morning to run in the snow. This is much better where I just pull on my shoes, turn on my fan, and throw the DVD in my computer.

I'd say your space should be alright. I don't have a lot of room to move around, but am still able to do most. The hardest thing for me is having a ceiling that is too low. If your space doesn't work, I hope you can find another one and keep up with us.
  • Grouch, great job making it through the first week! that took some determination I'm sure! i hope I'll be able to say the same next weekend!

Well, I cleared a bigger space and I am starting tomorrow, the low ceiling may be an issue for me too. I can barely reach my ceiling while standing on my tip toes. but I'll just have to make it work. I'm going to do the fitness test in the morning and do the measurements tomorrow night (as long as I remember to go by the store and get a measuring tape!), and then do my usual weigh in on Monday morning.

Also, the only space I have to do this is on carpet. I was thinking i should get some kind of mat to do this on because i dont want to sweat all over the carpet... lol. Does anyone have suggestions of cheap-ish ones or what kind would be best that doesn't slip around?

Yeah Grouch I am quiet on the weekends I have class, on Friday and Saturdays! I am a little disappointed I have up 19 minues into Cardio Power and Resistance ( felt like I was going to get sick, so I going to start tomorrow's video and then add the last 20 to that, at least that is the plan, and WELCOME Elle!
  • Ok, just read through this thread again and I have to admit that I am a little scared for tomorrow morning!!! eek. Gotta get pumped up and get through it!

I was wondering if anyone knows where we can get estimates of calories burned for each of the DVDs. I don't have a HRM and probably can't afford one anytime soon.

So I did the fit test today and here's my results. My measurements are on my blog. My day off will be Saturday.

    Switch Kicks 102
    Power Jacks 68
    Power Knees 78
    Power Jumps 34
    Globe Jumps 10
    Suicide Jumps 12
    Push-Up Jacks 22
    Low Plank Oblique 49
    Measurements
    Weight 183
    BMI 24.8

Good news! as of today I am no longer in the "overweight" category of BMI =) so happy for that!
  • Wow I just completed the first real day! now here I am after I took a shower of course, feeling very refreshed and accomplished, but oh boy was it a challenge!! I got through most of the exercises but on some i had to stop and jog in place, and then when they started the next exercise i'd join in again. I am ok with this as it leaves some room for improvement and a challenge to keep me going! but whoa. it is tough. it went by a lot quicker than I thought it would, however!

Unsure of how to record it in my exercise diary, as I have no idea how many calories I burned. maybe as plyometrics or circuit training? I'll do a conservative estimate for this time. but my heart rate was around 185 during most of the intervals!! crazy! I don't really care about accurately recording calories burned as long as I am pushing myself hard and not getting my heart rate to a dangerous level, im good!

And that is what Insanity is all about. Do what you can, feel like you have pushed to your limit, rest for a few, then jump right back in. As long as you feel like you have given it your all during the workout, you have done it correctly.

As far as calories go, you probably burned upwards to 600-700 or more. Especially if your heartrate was so high. I have also found that if I don't eat more and/or have a recovery drink, I am completely spent for the rest of the day. Listen to your body and you will be fine.

    Great work!!!
  • Surprisingly, I have a lot of energy today even after Insanity! I am glad because it would be harder to stick with if I am totally run down :) Hopefully it stays that way.

I wish i could find out how many calories I really burned, I recorded like 100 lower than I most likely burned, just to be sure I don't over estimate.

I also thought it would be an awesome idea to take my resting heartrate at the beginning of this and record it and compare it to the end. Today it is 56 bpm. I am hoping to get it down towards 50 by the end. when I was doing spinning class 6x per week it was at 53.

I am already looking forward to tomorrow!! I have to wake up early since i have to be at work by 8!
